But who knows, I mean, Oblivion has grown on me? Oh and I think Hundred Days is as stellar in it's own way just as dubno, sttititi, etc. I like Underworld. :p bitch. |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
i have to agree with you, john. everybody's going nuts about these new endings to the tracks, and honestly i can see why they took them out— the new ending for twist, for example, simply doesn't fit and just sounds like the end of two months off tacked onto the end. and i bet the same people who love it now, had it been included on the album, would have noticed the similarity and thought it was cheesy.
ditto for mo move. the ansum part, honestly, just sounds tacked on, like they didn't know what to do with those bits so they just put them there, then decided against it— it just doesn't fit, it almost sounds like something somebody could've done with audacity on their pc. i like the track little speaker a lot better than the mo move with ansum on the end. it's extremely obvious that it wasn't written that way, seeing as the bits from 'little speaker' and 'ansum' match exactly with the bits from the end of mo move, like they were just pasted there. i think they went back and wrote the song little speaker to use that bit and to me it fits better. not that i'm saying that multi-sectioned tracks are bad. i just think if you don't perform them together, and kind of stick two different tracks together that weren't written for each other it just sounds like a crossfade. overall i guess my point is that i think they made the right decisions in the end. |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Well after years of digesting AHDO, I can say that Little Speaker is a track that I skip frequently or fast-forward for the stellar ending. That said, I really like tacking the good bits onto MoMove rather than even have LS as an album track. Maybe a B-side?
As for the ending of Twist... I LOVE IT! Maybe it doesnt work on the album and sure, thats a legit rationale. But as a little bonus track that Im hearing today... LOVEI T! Twist as it is on AHDO... pretty good. Twist live... FANTASTIC! Something's always been missing from the album track. Some lost energy somewhere. |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Little Speaker is very nearly a great track. I'd like to hear Rick explain that out of time drum part.

Little Speaker (track on regular AHDO) at around 3:05 into the song, the beat goes noticeably offbeat for a few seconds. I like it. :) |

Beyond the obvious differences, i think i'm most enjoying TMO - i hear a different pattern before the main chords come in. |

I like that laughing synth sound after that offbeat :)

The problem isnt that it is beyond the 4-4 beat, it is precisely the oposite, it IS a 4-4 beat but it is just completely out of sync with the main 4-4 beat.... and a whole lot of frustration ensues! |

Well to my ear they do.. This was clearly not a mistake, Rick meant to put it in and it was an experiment of course, but I just dont like it and wish it wasn't there... just my opinion |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
it doesn't sound like bad programming to me. i've always heard that and it sounds right to me. maybe y'all aren't used to progressive music?

whether right or wrong, I notice it each and every time I listen to that track. it feels (feels, not is) as tho the base starts on the 2 rather than the 1. (or maybe on the eighth note)

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
A bit late, but thanks to Swift for Ansum and thanks to whoever it may concern for my RTSR tracker approval. Great stuff!

Don't be such a grinch. There's nowhere on this highway like darktrain, and you know it.
& I REALLY have wondered what you've been up to, found it strange you hadn't been around. You're kinda like an annoying sibling. |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
I really like both of the mentioned beat additions to Little Speaker. The one at 0:30 is reminiscent of a delay, giving the beat more depth, and the one at 3:05 adds complexity in a way that gives the following section all that much more energy.
IMHO. :) |

anyone want to upload this to the FTP? purty please?

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
i have to admit, i've been listening to this 'promo' album quite a bit lately. ive also rediscovered Ansum.
MoMove is just so much more worhtwhile with the Ansum ending IMO. I've always liked the tune, but hated that it never really went anywhwere. WIth the new Ansum ending, I like it even more. |

Btw, your post about mastering and valuing the rare commodity that is pre production demos is right on. I haven't heard this yet, but if it's as it sounds, these sort of things are usually only sent between band and management, and sometimes to the label under penalty of death if it gets leaked. |
