Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Here's a quick .cue file for the track, based on MN-Jeff's times above:
PERFORMER "Underworld" TITLE "BrokenLovelyThing" FILE "audio.mp3" WAVE TRACK 01 AUDIO TITLE "JAL To Tokyo" INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO TITLE "Billy Goat" INDEX 01 05:37:00 TRACK 03 AUDIO TITLE "Peggy Sussed" INDEX 01 11:39:00 TRACK 04 AUDIO TITLE "Dub Shepherd" INDEX 01 14:00:00 TRACK 05 AUDIO TITLE "Lenny Penne" INDEX 01 16:30:00 TRACK 06 AUDIO TITLE "Monkey Wink" INDEX 01 23:33:00 TRACK 07 AUDIO TITLE "Witness" INDEX 01 26:55:00 Works fine in FooBar2K, should work in other players that can accept cue files. This stuff gets better every time I listen :) |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
i listened to Lovely Broken Thing, walking home last night in the rain. It works on so many levels...From beat-heavy jams like in the live shows to ambient soundscapes, insistent lyrics, flow, build up and come down.
Thank you so much, Rick and Karl, and everyone involved in this new phase of releasing music! Can't wait for what's next! :) holden |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
finally got a listen on a system with a bottom end - this is a really tight release JAL to Tokyo is a great track - thanks for the music r&k.

In fact the entire time through my first listen, I kept likening the sound to STITI. I think it a lot of it is as "distinct" as the sound on that record...if that makes any sense. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
OMG....its so fucking perfect!!!!
Thx underworld |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
i hope she holds out over the weekend *pats server*....
i've filled her up with a nice drink and plenty of ice she should be ok. ive also tested the site on win2000 IE and the download worked for me :( bugger also tryed on 98 and 95 and it worked fine... part form the normal windows stuff. also downloaded it to winCE and Symbian all worked sorry to the people having hassles. very odd.. not sure how to test that. the fix using Firefox seems to be helping there so cool.. added cart feedback so u can see how many items u are poping into it on the shop page.. thought it my help.. ok- im offline till monday... have fun! |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Of all the times to be without internet service at home...

Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Wow...25-30 minute mixed songs, just like off the singles in the old days...and this is only the first and there are 5 coming. Is this not what every underworld fan has been asking for since Beaucoup Fish? I love it.
|
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
i dont know about the 5 coming part, but there certainly are more coming. this is going to be absolutely fantastic when we have a few in our ipod queue to choose from to suit the mood.

Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Only thing that annoys me is i cant change the info on iTunes to put the genre in!

Im also finding it hard to get the file to save to Itunes. It wont drag in, and wont save in.So everytime i exit iTunes i have to add it again which is annoying. |

Just easier to listen to different tracks if i feel the need.Rwally liking the last song on Lovely Broken Thing.

Only real disappointment is the 192 kbps. Some of the vocals seem a bit muffled and to be honest 5 pounds for 7 songs is still kind of on the high end of pricing, which I wouldn't mind if the sound quality was like --aps or something... |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl

And the price? i;m just a poor student, but $8.60 USD for 7 songs is a deal, considering what CDs cost. Sure, slightly more than iTunes, but whatever, it's fair. |

Also, just want to point out another thing...the tracks Dub Shepard and Lenny Penne don't really have a good divide point, so it's probably best to leave them just as one. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Rick, Karl - big hand from me. Broken Lovely Thing is both fresh and refreshing, fantastically familiar; that sublime, superb Underworld sound still makes me smile.
To everyone else - remember this is a new direction for these guys, i'm sure this download only project will grow to be something really special http://www.dirty.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif! For now, i'm just going to enjoy the moment. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
I had no prob dl'ing it.
OMFG!!!! It is spectacular!!! Thanks UW, now come to the US and I can die a happy man. Just have two questions: 1. I can't get teh photo's to play 2. How do you break it into separate tracks. I am going to wait and dl them all and then burn them to disk. I would like to have separate songs. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
third;
one, image files aren't meant to be played, you're supposed to look at them two, google meda mp3 splitter, this program will help you |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
just downloaded this. From what I've heard so far, I wouldn't call it spectacular, but I understand that this is not neccesarily comparable to the traditional album stuff, but rather someting a bit different than they would have been able to release when tied to a record company. I really love and appreciate the idea and the direction this is/could be going and it's good to hear that there will still be a "proper" album somewhere down the line.

Of course, my primary concern was to come in here and give the guys major props on what I felt was a strong way to kickstart this thing into motion. But my advice to them - keep your price in mind before each release. If you know you're going to drop some real risky stuff, throw the people a bone and cut the price down. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
I really like this idea. I like that I can directly support Underworld (and this project) by tossing a few $$$ their way. All of us have tonnes of bootlegs etc. that we listen too (some downloaded from UWLive, with more upcoming), for hours on end. Underworld (or their crew) don't see a dime for this, though it's pretty good advertising for how good they can be. And no matter how anti-filesharing you are, some of their rare stuff can't be bought in a manner that directly supports Underworld (i.e. Ebay). So if I can toss some $$$ their way and buy Rick and Karl and Darren (and Ant!) a latte, even indirectly, I'm loving the chance.
Remember, when you buy the tracks, you're also indirectly buying the bootlegs on UWLive....so to quibble over $2 a track or whatever for "Broken Lovely Thing" with some you like, some you don't, seems pointless when you look at the two bootlegs they have up right now being 12 parts and 18 parts, of high quality (soundboard?!?!?) bootlegs. So that's like...$10 for 37 tracks. We are getting a deal. :) (And that's not including the 3 other concerts they have posted in the past, and misc random/live studio stuff, which new/old UW fans can take advantage of without peer to peer.) Heck, I'm more likely to buy high quality bootlegs than the studio material. Thank-you Underworld! -- hex |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Guys,
Thanks SO much for continuing to provide us rabid fans with great music. I, like many others on here, I'm sure, cannot WAIT to listen to this new phase of Underworld, and I know I'll be buying this ASAP. Keep up the great work, and those of us in the states hope you come back sooner rather than later... |

That's a good way to look at it, and something I hadn't considered. :)

Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
It's like the Pearl's Girl EP....lots of weird b-side stuff and a single (in this case two singles, Jal and Lenne).
I paid more for the Pearl's Girl EP.....so I can't complain;) Not album quality but a great little listen nontheless:) Totally worth it. |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
update: after many many listens - i think its fantastic.
|
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
yeah, I agree with dog.
I definitely think it's album quality...MHO |
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Thanks 3459... Are these tracks exclusive to this dl only or will they be on a studio release? Just wondering.
|
Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
I wish they would give all the tracks for free and put up a paypal donation button. No donations = no new material. Of course you would have a lot of leechers, but that seems to be what happens eventually anyway.
I felt that the 'fee' for the new stuff was just a donation and anything I got out of it was a bonus. I would still rather have a cd or vinyl release. Even a C90 tape would be welcome. But beggars can't be choosers, so whatever we get is fine. The story with the pictures was a nice touch. |

Wow, I'm liking this the more I listen to it. The mood and vibe is the right mix of light and dark. I'm even liking "jal to tokyo" and "lenny penne" now. I want to hear more.

Re: Broken Lovely Thing : A message from Rick and Karl
Hi
Love the new release, and I love this as a way of releasing material. The artworks, and photos make this a complete audiovisual experience, as you would expect from Underworld/Tomato. I would like to echo Chris's request, and some of the messages on the RTSR forum, that a Flac release would greatly be appreciated. I would be happy to pay double for the quality. I would also be happy to pay for a Flac version of the free live material. Thanks Jamie PS. Does anyone know what the font used on the cover is? Looks like a variation on Palatino, the serifs on the 'T' lean out. Maybe my linotype version is slightly different from other foundaries, my 'T' has vertical serifs. Sorry to be so 'typo tecky'.
