Re: Liars, the lot of them all

In the event this happens, you should look at it like this...

Your going to a RH concert, it will be a bonus to see UW live again, but it won't be an UW concert. maybe a quarter of the people there will care for/pay any attention to UW, or even be there when they go on. Yes it's not the optimal environment to see them, but, if you like both bands, it's a win/win...

I've been to enough concerts where i hated on the headliners, and it just makes the whole experience so, so.

It is what it is... life's too short, enjoy yourself. ;)

fact. ALL of "Amnesiac" was completely finished BEFORE the release of "Kid A"

fact. They played live pretty much all the tracks from both albums prior to the release of "Kid A"

option 1 - "Kid A" becomes a double-album. Which record companies hate, b/c they cost more to produce, and there's a bit of a stigma about double-disks "and that they suck" [not that I believe that second part necessarily] => solution - 'hey guys, if we just release them as two different albums, we can CHARGE DOUBLE!!!! *yay and the record comany & the band can glad hand and slap each other on the back

option 2 - "Kid A" drops some stuff, and a few tracks f/ Amnesiac hop onto that album (to me - half of Amnesiac sounds like nothing more than filler -> "Hunting Bears"? "Morning Bell/Amnesiac"? "Dollars & Cents"?) - record company & band hate this option, as they get less money, and don't have something to push momentum towards ticket sales

..and let's not forget that the reason why RH albums haven't been available digitally isn't b/c "itunes is evil" or "mp3's sound like crap" it's because they couldn't force customers to always buy tracks as "album only" - such that you couldn't buy just one song - you have to buy entire albums

and to me - "Cherry Pie" "Oich Oich" "Mos Ospitable" and "Puppies" all sound like they're in the same realm as Kid A / Amnesiac

But I really DON'T hate Radiohead. I just think that they are too oftenly given this altruistic tint over them... (and they recycle too many of their tunes)

Knives Out is still the best Radiohead song.

that's what i'm screaming. i don't give to farts about the "fact" crap about what was composed when. i just don't begin to see a valid comparison between these two sets of music.

and that's coming from someone whose top two favorite musical acts are 1) underworld and 2) radiohead.

the thing that pisses me off the most about Radiohead followers is their ignorance of electronic music prior to kid a/ok computer. they give too much credit to Radiohead for being innovators, which they are not. i saw Radiohead in 95 or 96 opening for REM and they killed it that night. haven't enjoyed anything nearly as much as The Bends but didn't fully jump ship until after OK Computer.

i understand why underworld want to kiss ass and open for radiobitch on this tour and it will probably gain them some fans, i would even go if i got a free ticket (certainly wouldn't pay the prices they'll be charging), but it's pretty much "worse case scenario" for seeing an Underworld show.

man, looks like someone has run afoul of some online shenanigans before.

i'll just say that ateaseweb (radiohead board) has a wide demographic. many are intelligent. many many many are not. but the music forum, as contradictory and bizarre as some of the things said are, has a pretty good grip on a lot of different music. it's mostly centered around indie/experimental/electronic stuff, but there's so many members with different specialisations that you can keep yourself updated on the latest in a lot of different areas in no time. along with all the pedantry of "i like aphex twin what else is there??!!" there'll be someone else trying to generate some excitement about the new james ruskin. we also talk an awful lot about the releases everyone else gets excited about on the internet too (portishead, lidell, etc), so i'd say the breadth is about as wide as you could reasonably expect it to be.
i'd admit that none of this expansiveness was around pre-kid a, but i was a member there back then too, and the place was pretty damn small.
as for being innovators, we're slooooooowly trying to steer that ship into being "influencers within their group". they sorta made it *not* a complete geek move to put computers in your rock, and the results have only been tangentially related to what they did, but somewhat related nonetheless. i'm pretty sure if you play devils advocate and start talking about how autechre are riding the RH coattails you'll get laughed out of town.

but as for any of this relating to them two playing on the bill, none of this really matters. there'll be a small fraction, like me, who would stubbornly insist on getting it on without reservation. and then theres the other 90% who will at most migle and at worst stay put the entire time. at that point you just have to be in it for yourself and stop being such a damn baby about it.

im personally pleased as all hell this is happening. i'm a huge radiohead fan.
