Re: It's 1999 again!
FWIW Paul Hartnoll's solo album was pretty good...not amazing but I liked it...would be surprised if the new Orbital material turned out to suck
Really, really not surprised they came back though |

new song isnt amazing or anything, but it's probably their best since middle of nowhere
and the vocals are the best thing about it |
Re: It's 1999 again!
Not that impressed with the new Orbital track but that's not really a shocker since I hadn't really thought much of anything they'd done after In Sides. Very cool to see all the old names cropping back up though, it'll be interesting to see who's still got some fresh ideas left and who doesn't.
I think that the 2000's have moved on quite nicely without these guys though -- acts like The Field, Pendulum, Ulrich Schnauss (to name a few) and others have since come along and filled many of the voids left by some of these midday acts. Just seems as if lately, that being the past 2 years, that the whole umbrella term "electronica" has been suffering. My hat's off to the old guys for coming back into the fold -- maybe they'll fill this newer void... ;) |

The Hartnoll Bros. should have sampled 'Pet Semetary' instead-
"Some things are better off dead" ....like Orbital :) |
Re: It's 1999 again!
Having a deep listen to the new Orbital double A-side "Don't Stop Me"/"The Gun is Good"... and you know, it's really great!
"Don't Stop me" is much more integrated than the version posted here earlier... it builds from the analog bassline and chopped samples into something both lush and aggressive, something that could have fit on In Sides or surely Middle of Nowhere. "The Gun is Good" has a crap-lousy dialog sample, though it's nothing too shocking, given the Hartnolls' penchant for cheeky and somewhat political statements... but the music is vintage Orbital - skittering beats, tweaked synth hooks, walls of layers. Somewhat reminiscent of "You Lot " off their last LP, but much more realized. In short, the boys sound reenergized. It's not a retread of past Orbital moments, as was so much of Blue Album - it's building off what they've always done so well, but sounding new this time. |

thought "the gun is good" was pretty decent...didn't care much for "don't stop me now"...only first listen though
