Re: collectors' corner

I was going to say that remix 12" of "Confusion..." but I thought... nah - I should let BSS mention it

...you still have that don't you, right?

as far as other rare things...

what about those Italian KOS remixes... although - those don't seem to be as well 'known' (which, in theory could negatively effect the price)

or the "Rick's Bungalow" mixes of KOS as well

Re: collectors' corner

acetates by their very nature are rare..

most of the king of snake vinyl versions show
up pretty cheap, and the italian one isn't that hard
to find..

i think the juanita German promo 12" is pretty rare too..
(although there are several copies for low prices at
discogs)...so maybe its NOT that RARE.. i just
didn't see it come up much...

oh - yea... I guess the Italian KOS 12" isn't that rare... I just haven't seen it (or is it the cd version of that, is the rare thing?)

...hmmm... I know I've got the white vinyl of "Cowgirl" and that's 'kinda hard to find sometimes'
but certainly not on the same level as Mother Earth, Rez/Why Why Why, or that 12" with the long version of Rowla...

...which reminds me... if anyone's got an mp3 of that long version it'd be MUCH appreciated. I haven't heard it for ... god... it seriously has been over ten years!!!

this discussion about "Spoonman" reminds me...

I always suspected that "Banstyle" was going to be a single - but for some reason never was released...
I mean - it kinda makes sense,

they made a video, and there are two remixes of it (if you count that second Darren Price mix of Nuxx, which has Banstyle vocals and other stuff)

...maybe it got shelved b/c of the NUXX single?

i think that's an average price... nobody's paying a lot

Had it on my eBay Radar, but together with p&s costs I didn't find it too much of a bargain. I only pick up vinyl when it's really cheap.

The only additional content to this release (apart from the OBI) is a sheet of stickers (Underworld; Underworld, A Hundred Days Off & Underworld, Two Months Off).

I'm reviving this question because it's always bugged me. I actually saw a review of Spoonman in a UK dance mag back in the day, and recall Karl also telling me they would take some white labels to the record stores near their Soho office. I wonder if they may have just made up a batch of these to get some interest in the album which was either just out or imminent. Anyway I trudged around every record store I could find around their offices the very next day and got either the "never heard of it" of "all gone mate" answer (which could also mean they never heard of it either). Would be a good question to ask R+K on the next radio show as to whether this mythical beast really did exist, or if I just wasted my shoe leather.

wasted shoe leather always provides a good story though, so it's not really wasted. :D

Someone was talking about Banstyle being a single... It would def make sense by the usual 3 single standard per LP, but to take out Sappys Curry.... That whole composition is brilliant.

Of course a single running over 15min wouldn't make the cut. How would you edit that for radio?

along with born slippy, pearls girl, dirty epic and
a ton of other really long songs..

it's not that hard to make a 3-4 minute edit
out of anything..

doing a good job of it is a different story..

yes, I'm well aware of the many uw songs that have a running time of over 9min+ have been edited for radio... the question was more of a direct one - How would YOU edit that for radio?

I know how I would and I think I might have a short version somewhere amidst my vast collection of digital files... I might have edited it for a compilation I made... I'll have to dig into the archives.

-1 - so true about the edit being good. Most radio edits are abruptly ended...

Re: collectors' corner

I'd say the music video gives a pretty good idea of what they'd have had in mind for an edit of Banstyle. Speaking of which, does the existence of a music video lend further credence to the theory that it was supposed to be a single at some point?

you would think, but I think it was filmed to support several videos for a visual compilation. Depeche Mode did the same thing for their release of "Strange" - Pimpf was never to be released as a single, however, there is a video for it... and it worked to support the other videos which were singles.

we won't see a single for Banstyle unless uw decide to re-invent it like Born Slippy.
I'd be down for that.

From the discogs Sales History:

Sales History (prices in USD)
This last sold on Dec 30, 2011.
Highest: $6.60
Lowest: $3.96
Average: $5.46
Median: $6.31

5.00 Canadian would be right in line with that. Plus, who wouldn't want a hard copy of that picture on the front, right?? ;)

Anyone have any idea of what the difference between these releases are in regards to the mix of Riders In The Night?

Hmmm just wondering if Tony is the same tony who bootlegged the Sheffield Octagon gig in 94. anyway, about spoonman, Emerson did used to drop spoonman samples into his set on the mmmdog? tour that year so maybe an acetate exists from then.

Credit for that bootleg would go to Mark Bothamley, who I am sure can be found in this forum from time to time. Though I did pass on a copy to Yannick with Mark's kind permission. :o)

I received a Warner Chappell promo cd the other day. It's from a release I've never heard of before. It appears to be legit, so I'm thinking it was meant to be issued but never was.

'Under 12 not admitted: Vol. 1' (yeah, the title stinks).

What do you think?

Re: collectors' corner

Also got an original polaroid photo - it's a photo possibly taken by Karl (according to the seller).
And more important, the photo made it to the Mmm...Skyscraper artwork as you can see below :)

Lx_Nen 09-24-2012 11:11 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Interesting... on the artwork you can't identify the actual building, but the polarioid shows it's Centre Point in London, at the end of Tottenham Court Road, the nearest tall building to Wardour Street, both places that get namechecked in UW songs around that era.

TheBang 09-26-2012 04:26 PM

Re: collectors' corner

Interesting. Warner Chappell would be the U.S. music publisher of the time, so I'm not sure why there would be a potential release directly from them.

How about the tracks themselves? Any differences from the normally released version?

mark3 09-30-2012 11:59 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Thanks for the info, Lx_Nen.
The tracks aren't different from the released versions but followed by a 20 sec gap...

stimpee 10-13-2012 08:36 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Terrible title for a CD, and the misspelling of the tracks doesnt help either. "BURT's Mix" and "Irish Pub Mix"... As I remember Telematic and Burts dont have the word mix on them.
