Underworld Sightings
Music at the ice rink... I know this song...
I don't get here as often as I used to and couldn't find the old 'sightings' thread. Did I miss it? [Mod note: Found it!] |
Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Hah! Found a good one today!
Watching old episodes of Trigger Happy TV - series 2 episode 2 has a "fake" ice-cream van and when an American punter comes to ask for an Orange Disco, the "ice cream man" closes the windows, puts disco lights on and starts raving to Nuxx! :D |
Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Born Slippy Nuxx came on in a local irish pub last week, I thought I was hearing things because it's usually just classic rock.

Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
i was watching one of those crime in Britain type shows voiced by Jamie Theakston which had an Underworld track, and it usually does most weeks, can't for the life of me remember which track but its a staple of this kind a show...
also they played another one during Location Location Location... which i LOL'd about must remember to note these down when they happen... doh stupid brain - it was a couple of weeks ago, but music selectors on British tv shows generally have pretty good taste when underscoring scenes... UW's music is pretty prevalent in these type of shows... |
Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Watching tv this eve (the bi-annual charity telethon "Comic Relief" is the main event) I re-tuned from BBC1 to BBC2 and caught a bit of "Rocket Science" - a program which follows an inspirational guy trying to get UK schoolkids interested in science subjects i.e. phyics and chemistry, and a snippet of "Blueski" was played.

Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Ha, even the the instrumental interludes get coverage. :)
This was sort of an offhand sighting, but I have Rez / Cowgirl going on my computer right now, and a few minutes ago my dad inquired, "What song do you have playing there? That 'doo-doo-doo-dee-doo' one?". I responded in my usual matter-of-fact manner, as if he should know it already, "Oh, that's 'Rez' by Underworld". Expecting a "Oh, sorry. Wrong track. I was thinking of something else...", I instead got, "Oh! I think they used that in an old telephone commercial a while back...". Now, I'm sure you'll all go "oh that's the [blank] ad" anyway, so I'll just come out and ask... what commercial is he talking about? |

Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Few days ago I finally finished translating a chunk off of a book about film. There was a case study on british film and the author used Trainspotting as an example. In that part was a section that outlined the importance of music in contemporary film, its economic spillovers and effects on pop culture. I noticed that they failed to remember one of the very few tracks that really just fit in with the ongoing scene, so in the part where they listed bands that marked the movie I decided to add Underworld next to New Order, Iggy pop and Blur.

Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Standing in a random line at Roskilde Festival, suddently some rock band starts off on "Drive boy, dive boy...".
I literally had to do a double-take when I heard it - and it only really sunk in when the singer started "Shout it, lager lager lager" :D |
Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
Didn't know if I should start a new thread or not for this, but there's a new Palm Pre ad here in the states I saw tonight that uses 'Doot Doot'. Caught me off guard at the random awesomeness.

Re: Underworld Spotting [Again]
This happened before OWB, and I know it doesn't count as a sighting, but I had another UW new-album dream. I was in a back-alley record store in Chicago and saw 2 CD's on the floor under a table, I picked one up and looked at it, I could barely read the artist Underworld on the front cover. It was dark red/orangish and had an extremely faded picture of a rat's face, all that was visible was the eyes, really. The album was named either "Touch" or "Touched." Mike (from UW HQ) came over and I asked if I could look at it, even though I already was, and he said no. But he gave me a promo postcard to play with that was transparent, and had some colored transparent blocks that changed the way things looked when I looked through them. Anyway, there were only about 7 songs and the only names I remember were "New York" and either "Joo-Rin" or "Yoo-Jin"... something like that.
Where does this stuff come from? :o |
