You do realise you'll only be told to join RTSR unless there's an exception on freely given away stuff from UWlive and not fan bootlegs?

well - sometimes people have to be reminded about RTSR...

but Fuji was posted on UWLive - I forget which year though

and if you didn't notice - part of that performance was used for "Everything Everything" ... I don't remember all the tracks used, but I think "Pearls Girl" is from Fuji

...or was that NUXX? All I remember was thinking 'wait - they removed the cool "Risingson Improv" from the official release?!?!" when I finally heard the Fuji recording

FujiRock as well as Blue Mountain gig and the archived live jams were up at least from 2002 (when i stumbled apon them) till the page got a major overhaul a couple years back.
It's nice, though, to see a new wave of fans interested in these tracks.

Ah, "Rising Son"...such a great remix and a perfect improv for that era.

Re: underworldlive.com old tracks

I was just cleaning up my Underworld stuff in iTunes and found I was missing a few tracks and artwork from the old UnderworldLive site. Went back through this thread and found some of the old links have died soooo....

1) Is there a specific reason why the free UnderworldLive.com audio + video aren't available on RTSR? (at least, I can't find it) I mean in terms of policy.

2) Would a permanent archive of all the old UnderworldLive.com audio + video be helpful to anybody but me? I have free web hosting through my job, so I could host the files easily, so any dirts whose drives crash or whatnot could easily replace that stuff.

3) I'd need help filling some of the gaps, especially with the artwork for the live shows they posted. That thumbnail zip stauff posted is great but those with the full-size graphics could be a big help in making a more formal archive.

Would like everybody's thoughts on whether this is worthwhile.

I think all the EE audio was taken from a Pukkelpop (?) gig. The video was a mixture of different gigs including Fuji and Pinkpop.

Re: underworldlive.com old tracks

Alright, sorry about the delay but I'm finally ready to get this Underworldlive.com archive thing off the ground. Thanks to some generous dirties and my own ripping and editing of available audio, I think we're very close to having a complete collection of everything that was ever released for free online.

Here is a list of what material I've compiled. It's missing the new tracks that were available on the last version of Underworldlive.com as streams, but I'm sure some of you can spot some other holes and hopefully fill them with the appropriate files.

http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddxnxwgb_3hqfzq29b

RTSR would be an ideal place for such a complete collection but the nature of that site and Yahoo group continues to elude and confound many, including myself (for some reason I continue to receive the Yahoo email digests but cannot log into the group itself). So I think in in addition to RTSR, some kind of dedicated website or Mediafire download package or something along those lines is better. I could even host it myself if need be. But we'll worry about that later.

-The May 13 broadcast was from 2006, not 2005.
-There was a broadcast from December (15?) 2005 as well with a few exclusives played.

-May 15th was the first time To Heal (And Restore Broken Bodies) was played as well.

If this could be made avaliable, I'd be very happy. Especially since the last broadcast had many snippets of songs that could be a'coming

Right, I got that but left it off as it's been since released commercially. There's an Ancient Phat Farm Coat they played somewhere that is identical to the RiverRun version so I left that off as well. I'm just trying to isolate the stuff you can't hear anywhere else at the moment.

And in terms of the recent music made available on UWLive up until the new site started... swing up high etc...can that now be added to the collection considering it seems to have been removed completely from the site and is not featured in the player...?

Yes, exactly. In fact, I think anything Underworld releases for free is fair game to be ripped or downloaded or shared regardless of whether it's still streaming on their site. If something like the extended To Heal becomes commercially available, then it can be removed from the free archive because chances are everyone who knows about it will buy it. The problem with Underworld is that they've released all this amazing material and then let it become virtually unavailable -- even when people desperately want to buy it -- and often just because the website was updated in some puzzling way. It's tough for dirties to keep up with all this stuff, so it's impossible for less hardcore fans to hear a lot of this at all. I think it's hearing this stuff that turns people into hardcore Underworld fans.

I'm (almost) positive I have all of those still - I just have to get some other things handled this morning first.

[edit: here's the link]

http://www.mediafire.com/file/52ky48...ovies.zip/file

this is everything from that list, plus a few more.

If, by any chance, someone has the versions of "Swing Up High", or any of those streaming files that popped up around the 'OWB / Pre-Barking' era (like Rick's field recordings made during the US leg of the OWB tour, the versions of 'Autotrader' ...and I think there were versions of "Telematic Peal" ... maybe ALAF... as well) - it'd be much appreciated if they could share them!

Here’s what I’ve got from what you’re talking about. I can upload them when I get home tonight if no ones got a more thorough collection. The autotrader stuff was given/sold (?) along with the phone strap versions I thought.

ALAF; studio [version 1]
ALAF; studio [version 4]
Swing Up High; studio ; May 2004 [Radical Version]
Swing Up High; studio ; May 2004 [Version 1]
Telematic Peal ; Studio 2008 [instrumental]

Awesome, thanks a lot - I believe I have some of the stuff you're looking for ... ;)

Phonestrap / Autotrader was sold as a six-track bundle at UWlive. Been unavailable for a long time.

And there were alternate version for all of Barking
Strumpet Groove 7:10
Always Loved a Film (Lemonworld Mix) 7:24
You Do Scribble 8:04
Hamburg Hotel Essex 3:21
Grace (Telematic Peal Mix) 7:37
Between Stars (Lemonworld Mix) 4:55
Diamond Jigsaw (Demo Mix) 3:51
Moon in Water" (Lemonworld Mix) 5:53
Louisiana (Jumping the Cran) 2:05

And also a promo with instrumental versions

There was also this version of Telematic Peal on the 2008-06-11 show
And another one on the 2008-04-23 show

THANKS dubman and mark3!

I actually had that Phonestrap EP / digital single, but no worries. It's great to finally have those versions of 'Swing up High', ALAF #4, and the instrumental of Telematic Peal.

In regards to "Autotrader," I might be mis-remembering (I mean - it was about 10 years ago), but wasn't there a version where it had "Stagger" - style beats? Like, it started out with just Karl reading the car listings, but then it slowly added percussion...

This was a promo for the May 2006 radio show. The original QuickTime file of the video is available for download in the Files section of the rtsrboardoftrade Yahoo Group.

didnt aNt say something to the tune of "it's only up there because i begged for it, they'd rather forget about it and don't understand why i like it so much."

i love it too, and wish they had gone with that one instead of the scribble direction, but it's nice to have both.

reminds me of Karl saying he tried to get "Jumbo" cut from BF. though obviously he likes it now
tbh UW have always had some odd opinions regarding their own work, which is certainly not an uncommon thing, but it does explain why the "finish and release everything" kick they've been on this year has been so fruitful. as great as "Swing up High" is you get the sense it's only two-thirds done.

Fantastic. Thought it was lost forever. I love that jam. Someone should make an extended version... The original mov will probably have slightly better audio than a YouTube rip though its nice that the people here found it so quick!

The bass... I’ve learned to like it. It tweaked me the wrong way for ages because it always felt odd. Fat but not heavy, like something only kind of stuck in your throat.
But also I was at an age where Karl’s lyrics/delivery in it were just... too embarrassing. I couldn’t play this to my friends! “Iiiiiuuhn, need sugarrr” fucking... no! Eeaugh!
But being 14 is like that.

34958hq439-qjw9v5jq298v5j 10-30-2019 01:52 PM

Re: underworldlive.com old tracks

I think I was 13 when I first heard it. Loved it immediately
I didn't really like the "I need sugar" line either, but there's one that always got me..."telephone breath between us...there are no borders between us...only these wires"

Speaking of "Jumbo" - I was listening to an album by Yukihiro Takahashi the other day (who you might know from Yellow Magic Orchestra) and came across this tune - if Mr. YT is ripping you off then you've definitely stumbled on something brilliant :)

Tim’s a great bloke & a dear friend who’s out in Botswana producing the Number 1 Ladies Detective
Agency series. We met him first when he was producer on the Breaking & Entering project & he worked
with Anthony Minghella for many years until we tragically lost Anthony earlier this year (2008).

When I think of Hi-Life I think of King Sunny Ade singing ‘Synchro System’ at the Montreux Jazz
festival back in the 80’s with Keith Haring painting a back-drop of little dancing men live onstage.

I think of Andy Kershaw who always seemed to be playing the excellent Bhundu Boys whenever I tuned
into his radio show. Radio & indigenous music needs Andy back on the airwaves. His passion for music
that most of us know little about is infectious & in terms of music from other countries he’s been my
greatest teacher. I remember having a slight disagreement with a producer at the BBC when Andy was
moved from Radio 1 to late night Radio 3. I commented that Andy was missed & this guy said how Andy
didn’t belong on Radio 1 which kicked me off as amongst other things Andy plays THE ROOTS of
popular music & without knowing the roots all we’re gonna be doing is referencing music that only goes
back a few years. No roots – shallow foundations.
(nuff of that)

And of course when I think of Hi-Life I think of the master – John Peel - who loved the music of The
Four Brothers & I remember how they were played on the night we all gathered at BBC Maida Vale to
celebrate him.

Yeah – that’s it – Hi-Life – the music of celebration.
