i would have words with thee. actually now i'm back to thinking this albums better than when i first got excited then 'realistic' about it. i've had the come down and i think i've trashed the album more than i should have in the process. boy, boy, boy isnt a good tune yet but it's familiarity makes it pretty okay, making ring road the only one that still really suffers. i like the rest of it a lot more. more than "loads of birds" anyway. which is why im now pretty glad it's not on there. |
Re: Loads of Birds
Have words, then, Alan!
I used to like Crocodile, but now it sounds too bland and boring. I do like Beautiful Burnout, Holding the Moth, and Best Mamgu Ever. Boy, Boy, Boy I do kinda like, but most of this album is not something I'm going to turn to listen to very often. Loads of Birds is just deep and dark and sexy, and maybe you think it's cheesy, which I don't see, and obvious, which I don't care because it does what it set out to do and did it well. It gets me in a mood whenever I listen to it, and I can't say for much of the album. |
Re: Loads of Birds
well since we both powerword-ed each other all i really need to say in addition to the BB, HTM, and mamgu love is
GLAM BUCKET FAXED INVITATION CUDDLE BUNNY come on these were always the best tracks... croccodile and the rest aside from 'those two' are good at the very least, and the 'sexiness' of LoB is suuuuuuper goofy. |
Re: Loads of Birds
LOL.
Okay, Faxed Invitation is pretty good. Glam Bucket could've been better because I loved it live. Cuddle Bunny....bleh. |
Re: Loads of Birds
Glam Bucket suffers from Twist syndrome, whereby it's quite boring on the record but unbelievably amazing live. What do they have in common? Dirty guitar!
|
Re: Loads of Birds
i won't stand for this badmouthing of glam bucket. i'm dangerously obsessed with that track.
also, i will say this about loads of birds: it doesn't really sound like an UW track. it's distinctly different from any of their other works. every time i listen to it i'm reminded of gus gus's "remembrance" on polydistortion, but glitchier and more contemporary. same mood, though. |

Re: Loads of Birds
im obsessed with the album recording of Faxed Invite, and the live version of Glam Bucket. Mamgu has probably reached a high level in plays as well. I think OwB is quite a good album and go back to it often.
Cuddle Bunny isn't even worth mentioning. It is what it is, but its nothing that I would ever get a craving to listen to. ever. LoB reminds me of Massive Attack. |

Re: Loads of Birds
I like the 2005 live version of Faxed Invitation. Its got that extra added something...
...Jason Roth talking all over the beginning. |
Re: Loads of Birds
live version does rool. i think it benefits from the faster tempo. would love to hear this on an upcoming Radio Show.

which gig? is the bootleg kicking around? really?! - Faxed was around as early as 2005? I need to hear this. Faxed, for me, is the best thing on OWB, and one of the best things UW has ever done |
Re: Loads of Birds
2005-11-11 Luxembourg, opening track.

Re: Loads of Birds
I'm sorry, where in underworldlive.com is all this fonestrap stuff?
me want! |
Re: Loads of Birds
The Phonestraps are not currently available on the website. They were posted on the website from July-Oct. 2007, but have been unavailable since then. They might make a return to the Audio section of the Archive once that is populated, but we don't know at this point.

Re: Loads of Birds
Would anyone care to upload the fonestraps etc etc to a rapidshare or equivalent? If you did i would be most grateful. I know you can as you didn't let me down with bootleg babies.:o
|
Re: Loads of Birds
if the forums are searchable those tracks have already been compiled and offered via. rapidshare or equivalent.

as for Loads of Birds - it took me a while to appreciate it. at first ear, i didn't care too much for it - but now i'm digging the repititious drumbeat. as for my favourite OWB track, I would have to go with either Holding The Moth or Beautiful Burnout it's a tough decision... |
Re: Loads of Birds
From a LoB topic it turned into what are the best OWB tracks. FINE! BEST MAMGU EVER. Someone on the forum told me that Mamgu means Granma in Welsh. Put some psychology behind it and its obvious that someone's had a special connection to his grandma...perhaps she made the best(fill in the blank...a staple Welsh dish) or she knitted really nice sweaters. This track is veery carefully produced, well though off and tender and the pads are drifting and its just marvelous. I love it and nothing else compares to it. Maybe BB because it's also very emotional and deep but BME takes it all.

Re: Loads of Birds
My favorite track ever is and always has been cowgirl. I also love the way they've mixed rez into it in all the various ways that they've done through the years. It kicks my ass every time I hear it.

Re: Loads of Birds
Don't +1 him, or it. Cowgirl doesn't count. It's not OWB and it's not LoB related :P
|
Re: Loads of Birds
Would anyone mind uploading or linking me to a page where I can download all the fonestraps and such? I've tried searching the forum but to no avail.
Sorry if this is against the ToS.:( |
