Re: Fonestrap
Fantastic ! I love the last one, my favourite :)
|
Re: Fonestrap
oh the fourth one is wonderful -- feels like bumbling through a familiar city at night with beautiful sights everywhere. warm and dreamy.
the vocals sound a little disconnected to this feeling, but it's probably because I'm still more used to 1, 2, and 3. |
Re: Fonestrap
Wow...this fourth one is amazing. It's so etheral, and beautiful- ghost-like, almost. I love it.
|
Re: Fonestrap
what's the download link for the fourth version?
|
Re: Fonestrap
I believe the link is:
<http://www.underworldlive.com/home/FoneStrap4/mainColumnParagraphs/00/asset/Fonestrap4.mov> If that doesn't work, I've been able to save it via my temporary internet files folder. Hope that helps out. Jason |

Love this. Awesome stuff fellas.

Re: Fonestrap
thanks for the link
...anyone else wonder why none of the files so far have been able to be directly downloaded from UWlive? (as in, there's not a download link, etc) |
Re: Fonestrap
fantastic idea to show not just an 'evolution' of a piece, but what can be atchived from different view points.
as someone said, version 4 has lush pads, yet the vocals seems disconnected, distant. version 3 has more imediacy, like sitting infront of a campfire listening to a guy calmly pluck something away ona guitar. which ones better? well i guess it depends on your mood. |
Re: Fonestrap
anyone notice that the 'city sounds' in version four are from that "San Francisco Walk - Version" file?
|
Re: Fonestrap
version 5 up now.
i still think the first one is the best but i dont mind. keep em coming :D |
Re: Fonestrap
I hope they'll keep all the different versions up over time so the progression and altering of a piece can be observed. Similar to how Biro the Leggy was something from the archives of the AHDO period, played on a radio show on dirty radio, and has now ended up an album track.
The difference being with fonestrap that we're allowed the access to the work in progress as it developes which was previously only privy to a select few, let alone put on display for the public. Not to be too lauding of such a feat, but I can't help but admire Rick and Karl that much more for their willingness to share in this way. |
Re: Fonestrap
I love the last one, again and again...thanks a lot to share these versions , really... :)
|
Re: Fonestrap
This must be the "with Bells" version. :)
|
Re: Fonestrap
hmm... very cool version
But this is so different than the other versions, I don't think you could really compare it to the others again - what's the d/l link? I already tried just using the fonestrap4 address, but switched the '4' for '5' and that didn't work... |

if you use firefox, you can have the direct' links of files (or medias..) on your current page. :) |
Re: Fonestrap
you know... I've always used safari
but last weekend, I actually tried out Firefox... I think I need to just sort of 'train' myself to use that instead |
Re: Fonestrap
I can't get any of the fonestrap links.. ( I believe it is down )
could someone please upload it somewhere? Thx much! |
Re: Fonestrap
how about waiting for a bit, until the uwlive site is back up again?
|
Re: Fonestrap
Fonestrap 1 seems to have gone from underworld live. I can't get the links people have put up on this thread to work.
Can anyone help? |

thoughts on Phonestrap6(/Autotrader4):
now this is different! frentic yet controlled, exciting and disorienting. I really like it. (edit) looking forward to it being posted on the site. |
Re: Fonestrap
I love this track towards the end...has a real Tin There feel to it.
Especially like all the layered vocals. |
Re: Fonestrap
phonestrap 6 vs autotrader 4 was the bestest...
i'm waiting for the full upload on the site, in the next couple of days... |
Re: Fonestrap
phonestrap 6 vs. autotrader 4 was mega!
|
Re: Fonestrap
wasn't really digging the phonestrap/autotrader thing. Sounded like the two crashed together in a big mess of undefined sounds. Was good hearing a bit more upbeat techno-ish peace from uw again, but there were too many sounds going on imo. It started getting good at the end though when only the bassline and beats where left.
|
Re: Fonestrap
i thought this latest version was pretty cool....the text spliced and used as another rhythm. At the very beginning, the colors being called out was a callback of To dream of love, imo. Agreed, it did get a bit messy in the middle, piles of speech. i can't make out the phonestrat lyrics anymore, either. But the beat and that rolly bass got me grooving!
|
Re: Fonestrap
Can somebody fill me in on this? I heard phonestrap and autotrader on UWlive...but i'm not quite clear on the creative proccess behind versions 3,4,5 and so on.

Autotrader started with just karl speaking the listing of cars for sale. In successive versions, the words have been spliced a bit, ambient background added, and "music of the streets" included. Phonestrap has changed a lot from the initial guitar and voice song, to become more electronic. |

A pure wall of sound!!! |
Re: Fonestrap
I was almost unimpressed with the individual tracks (the Phonestrap series and the Autotraders); I thought it was nice that we could hear something like that, but they were so raw that I never really considered them "tracks." With the introduction of Phonestrap 6 + Autotrader 4, I really felt a solidness behind the otherwise airy stuff we had received before. On subsequent listens, I have come to agree that there's a heap of sound that wears me down in the song, but it's certainly something "more than the sum of its parts" and it blew me away the first time I heard it. I can't wait for further versions.

Re: Fonestrap
oh I'm with you, phaseblue. this is good stuff. I've always loved when they use choppy vocal segments (especially in those live incarnations of the original Born Slippy in the 90s ... oh what I would give to see 'em play that again).
it's something to get lost in. this whole phonestrap process is pretty cool. what more can fans ask for than a glimpse at how an Underworld track evolves? exciting. |

[quote] Oh yes!!!!!!:D |
Re: Fonestrap
Original BS was played in Luxemburg again, 2005.
Phonestrap6 vs Autotrader 4 is up UWlive now. |
Re: Fonestrap
I officially love this version with autotrader. Something to get lost in indeed. And yes, the choppy vocals are great. My favorite riverrun track was Back in the Fears with the layered vocals... this is similar to that, but more frantic.
I've already said it, but I still think this is an excellent treat as a fan to get a glimpse of the process... Oh, to raid the Underworld vaults and hear all the wonderful evolutions like we hear with the Phonestraps. :) |
