Of course you can join in!

And the deadline can be moved further if needed, no worries!

I'd also vote for an extension on the deadline. I'm leaving Saturday to make my way out to Colorado for the UW show, and then to NYC & Boston. Then stay in NYC for a week to catch the Chemical Brothers the following weekend. I have a few ideas on tracks, but doubt I'll get it done by Saturday.

Can't wait to hear it! Mine's at 90 bpm I think. So they'll be totally different. ;)

I'm all for extension of the deadline. I have a track lying around here to which I have to add some vocals and probably I should change the kickdrum as well. Mine will be dancey.

I too would be up for the extension...

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

i'm going to require an extension as well. just too dang busy these past few weeks w/work and everything else... i'm going on vacation next week too... i won't be able to get anything done by the 23rd... i'm going to have to detach myself from the list unfortunately...

but i am looking forward to hearing what you have prepared...

cheers,

I'd like in.

Oh, fwiw... my track's done pretty much, just need to clean the sound up a bit. But I don't have to compose it :)

Nice one.

Let's postpone the deadline to October 21st? On a sunday. That should give you all plenty of time to finish off your song. I know I need some time to finish my song anyway. I have a habbit of making a song, almost finish it and then change it completely.

Leon 09-12-2007 05:24 AM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Ok, here's the list of everyone involved:

Cadevil
Camiel Toe
Cranks
Future Proof
Holden
King Of Snake
Leon
Luminary
Lx_Nen
Polar Action
Sean
Thee Carp Dreamer
Ultradave
Winston

Quite a lot of people, which is great :) And I don't think anyone's planning on actually getting this compilation on cd, so the more songs, the more fun! :) I think a limit of 9 minutes per song is good though.

Oh and one more thing: Eventually, it would be nice to have a page on the website with some information about all the participants. A picture, artist name, real name, Dirtyforum nickname and a little story about yourself :)

And finally: Your song has to be good :p

October the 21st is a realistic date. Thanks Leon. Define a good song... good is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? :p :D

Re-reading this topic, I came across 2 things:

1. Holden, you said you would be happy to submit album work? Still into doing this? Or maybe webdesigning?

2. Who's got a good name for the compilation?

Yeah, sorry for the delay..i've been traveling (with that NYC stop to see Underworld!).

I am still happy to work on some album artwork. My track is in the works...lots of chances to compose on the laptop on airplanes and in hotel rooms lately!

As for the name, is "dreamgirl, i'm desperate for you" still in? Me likes.

Take crap, record it - whatever. As long as it's good.

(bump!)

Everyone still on-board with this? So, the deadline's now October 21, right? To whom do we send the submissions/bios and my promised artwork?

Yeah, thanks for the reminder :) Been working on my tune for quite some time now, still needs perfection though.

I think somewhere in this topic Winston offered webspace?

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I'm still working on mine with every intention of having it ready for October 21. Actually, I should probably have it ready before since that's my wife's birthday and I don't think she'd be too keen on me sitting there working on music all day. So I'm in. And mine might have guest vocals by one of our very own dirties....:)

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Mine's done... as in I've decided it's done and chucked it on my iPod to live with it for a bit, then realised I wanted to tweak some bits, fiddled with it, decided it's done and chucked it on my iPod to live with it for a bit, then realised I wanted to tweak some bits, fiddled with it, decided it's done and chucked it on my iPod to live with it for a bit, then realised I wanted to tweak some bits, fiddled with it etc .... and now I've stopped at version 6.

I may start again before the 21st, but that's life, and if I'm still fiddling after the 21st I'll send what I've got now and call any further fiddling a remix.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Good to hear some folks are basically done! I hope we have a pretty solid completion rate from folks on the list!

I am reworking a track that i recorded on 4-track in 2002 (back then, using a guitar, cheap effects pedals, crapio keyboard, and drum machine). I'm bringing it into the electronic world, but trying to replay the guitar parts is harder than i thought. And then, the vocals...i'm never happy with how my recorded voice sounds, so there's still plenty of takes to go! But it'll be done on time.

Really looking forward to hearing all your tunes :)

Hey! i'm almost done tinkering with my track, but in the meantime, as promised, here is a preliminary, lo-fi version of possible artwork for the compilation. It's designed as a CD-sized booklet gatefold (so, Right side is front, left is back), assuming all the tracks fit on one CD. The names are just in alphaorder, to be rearranged and with tracknames added.

Take a look:
http://brian.g.ruskin.googlepages.co...nart1-full.jpg

This is just a start and obviously the real version will be better than this jpeg screenshot. Feel free to comment/critique, either here or PM me your ideas. :)

Cheers,
Holden

And mine'll be under the name Grandbrother rather than Sean.

Nice direction on the album design. :)

Everyone don't forget to write a small biography and include a picture :) I don't know who to send it too yet, who's providing webspace?

artwork looks cool. Would like to see the typography fit a bit more with the graphics, rather than just being slapped on with a dropshadow though ;)

Hah! The typography was actually done first, then i slapped on the graphics!
Thanks for the feedback, i'll work on integrating them. :)

EDIT:
i've changed the names as requested and have messed around with layered text, in the spirit of Dubnobasswithmyheadman. i enjoy layerng it to the point of abstraction so you have a gradation from solid color to just a few wispy words.
Still a work in progress, and the text looks crappy in the jpeg, but i assure you it's readible!

We have almost finished our track.
Its turned into a bit of a tech monster, with a dirty rolling bassline and interesting female spoken word over the top.
We road tested it live last week and it was well recieved.
A few tweaks and it should be ready to roll out

Names sorted, including my own (holden=Avid)! Like a dummy, i just copied and pasted the original list of names from these boards, forgetting that people might have preferred production names. Anyone else want a change?

Here's artwork, version 3:
http://brian.g.ruskin.googlepages.co...artv3-full.jpg

How will we go about submitting our tracks and bios? Email?
