To marcg5546 from France: For shame! Didn't you read the "One purchase per person only please"? These are meant for the fans, not for speculative purposes.

i'm terribly sorry, 1st time i buy something on ebay, must have made a mistake somewhere, i just want to buy one (and it's in no case for speculative purpose!!!), i'm trying to cancel one of those now. any clue?

TheBang 02-22-2006 05:28 PM

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

Oh, I guess I shoulda figured it was a mistake, being that your user ID was a brand-new eBay member and all.

Unfortunately, once you've purchased something on eBay, there's no way for you, as the buyer, to retract that. You'll just have to contact the seller, and they'll have to cancel the duplicate, and then I guess it can be sold with the next batch.

I won't be happy 'til I can buy it from Best Buy :D

btw, Best Buy used to be the best place to find the dirty epic/cowgirl single for cheap.

Who is Robert Whiting?

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

mmm... apparently i could cancel everything, then lost everything, then one was still available, re-bought it and it seems that it worked... don't know... i will see. anyway very sorry for all this "noise" and for any inconvenience i could cause.

This is going to become mighty depressing...

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

OK, being a new Dirty member, I figure this is a way to contribute to the community (and share the Dirty love :) ).

This morning, I wrote a script to scrape the eBay pages every minute and e-mail me as soon as an Underworld listing appeared under that seller's (malfunctions5) items. It worked beautifully, and I was able to get my copy as soon as it appeared (look at my purchase time. 34 seconds after the start of the auction :) ).

Now that I have my copy, and my script has been tested, I'm willing to let other people benefit from my work. If you would like to be added to my script's e-mail list, send me a Private Message with the e-mail address you would like added. (Tip: Most cell phones can accept e-mail and deliver it as an SMS text message. If you have text messaging, call your cell provider and find out what the corresponding e-mail address is.)

Disclaimers
Please don't get pissed at me if it doesn't work. I'm doing this as a free service to you. If you absolutely can't miss the next listing of the Tokyo CD's, then I recommend you also use your own methods, and not rely entirely on my script. However, as long as the CD's are listed next time exactly as they have been in the auctions for the past week, I'm 99.9% confident that my script should recognize the listing and e-mail you within one minute of the auction posting.

Reasons why you wouldn't get notified: Auction listed with a different title, CD's sold under a different seller ID, your e-mail address is wrong, your e-mail server doesn't work or rejected/filtered my e-mail.

Also, I have to manually add your e-mail to the script. I don't check this forum every hour, so your e-mail may not get in the script before the next auction goes up.

Oh, BTW, this is where they show up:

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

thats pretty awesome of you, man. kudos! :)
dont know if it'd work for me personally, because i've been checking every time i come across a computer, so an email wouldn't help much as i just check automatically, just depends if i'm free to check while it's selling.

but thats mighty nice of you.

TheBang 02-22-2006 07:38 PM

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

Well, like I said, most cell phones can accept e-mail via Text Message. That's how I set mine up, so my cell phone started beeping when it came up, and I ran to the computer. That's about the best I can do, short of calling you personally. :)

not to forget ebay closing your account and banning your IP because you 'scraped' their pages with a script...

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

1. The script's running from a server, not from any computer I've logged onto their site with, so they can't associate it with my account.

2. They're welcome to try to ban my IP Address. All 8192 of them.

3.

eBay thinks differently:

"Writing software programmes to “scrape” eBay’s site is not permitted"
(http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...erference.html --> Some Examples --> Show)

Of course, they think strangely about various issues (including privacy policy, PayPal)...

I'd be happy to try some drastic measures, if I knew any that'd be effective. :)

I wish we even knew if any more are going to appear, or if searching eBay every hour around the clock is just a huge waste of time...

Well, you never know what a nicely worded e-mail inquiry might yield . . .

Very true, and everyone connected with Underworld seem to be great people, but I always try to keep in mind there are only so many hours in a day and they probably have many other things on their plate (and, like most of us, way more than enough e-mail in their in-box :)).

Being obsessive seems to have worked for me. I checked ebay an average of about every 20 minutes since I missed the boat earlier in the week. It's nice having a workplace cool with that, what with wireless internet and laptops and such. I guess it was effective from the perspective that I snagged one and no longer have to be that creepy about it. No more obsessing... at least not as bad as before. :) Good luck, all!

god, who looks for that shit apart from us though?

People who are going to turn around and sell them for $100 a piece.

That's what sucks, it probably wasn't even Underworld fans that bought them. I would really like one, but it's getting to be a little bit of a cat and mouse game.

Re: ebay live discs £15!!!

I've been checking now and then, but since I only have access to the net an hour or two each day it's been pretty unlikely that I'll catch malfunctions5 at the right time. The dirty radio broadcast tides me over quite adequately though. :)

[COLOR=DarkSlateBlue]the cover seems to be the same color as the Tomato-shoes? any one noticed that too?

Hopefully they'll sell a few more, so you can get them.
I am so excited about this, keeping my fingers crossed that at the next tour, they'll be recording/selling the gigs all the time :)
