Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
ive been on a HUGE Riverrun kick these past few weeks. I sorta forgot about it for awhile and now I'm back on it. Its still so damn good.

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
Would love to get this music/package on vinyl.

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
I think we're doing ourselves down by just having the standard discs suggested on the previous page. We know from drift there are unreleased riverrun tracks.
I listen to I'm a Big Sister almost every day. I find it a perfect travelling to work suite. |
Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
and with that, maybe find a way to sneak 5 Points on there? :D :D

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
I'd love a Riverrun boxset.
Give me an extended Back In The Fears and I'd be happy, I don't want to see Riverrun material crammed in with Oblivion With Bells. It deserves to be on its own. And if we can't get a boxset, then just reissue it all digitally at least. |
Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
I get the nostalgia. Have to say however I am far more excited about the prospect of a new release to be honest.

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
Yeah, bring on the new. The RiverRun period and self-release mode was special (though you could argue that Drift series 1 took RR to the extreme). I get the nostalgia, but im not really needing a re- release. It's fun to speculate on rarities to include, sure. Most of those listed probably wouldn't be included. Previous box sets have been mixed for me...love the unreleased tracks, not really feeling the remasters or recycling of remixes and b sides I already have. Just my view. I'd rather hear a new album or start of a new project, as well

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
theres nothing that says that they cant do both.

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
Yeah, Barbara came out five months after the Second Toughest boxset, they can both happen concurrently.

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
They certainly could release both, or even an overdue AHDO anniversary archival boxset. Just saying I'd rather have a new album - excited by the new singles and live tracks, and if/when the boxset(s) are released, maybe 90% of the folks here, the hardcore fans, will still be disappointed!
Dubno Superdeluxe (2014) - released for 20th anniversary (original 1994) STITI Superdeluxe (2015) - eh, kind of random 19th anniversary (original 1996) Beaucoup Fish Superdeluxe (2017) - 18th anniversary (original 1999) AHDO - original 2002, so following release pattern above, the box set should have come out in 2019 for the 17th anniversary! But UW was deep into Drift Series 1 '18-'19, so that never materialized. The RiverRun - 2005/06 releases - maybe we'll get it in 2025. Or tomorrow. Or never. |

Karl has mentioned that Rick wasn't fully happy with the state of the tracks and thinks they came out too soon. They have been willing to include some on other releases though, especially JAL on the collections. If they edited a new sampler album of them, it would be something to release on CD/Vinyl/Digital beyond the boxset for a wider audience and something they could be happier with. Just dropping 2 of the more minimal/bridge tracks from each one would give 12 tracks at 60-70 minutes depending on edits and have a similar variety to their other albums. No idea what Rick would want to do, but keeping some of the flow/ordering of the originals, I hit on this today and wanted to get it down: 1. Peach Tree 2. JAL to Tokyo 3. Billy Goat 4. Peggy Sussed 5. Food A Ready 6. Back in the Fears 7. Vanilla Monkey 8. Mowed Path 9. Lenny Penne 10. Monkey Wink 11. Wedge 12. Play Pig (Feel Play Pig is stronger than Witness and APFC is better as a 20-minute extra than edited down). |
Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
Referenced potential for a Riverrun boxset again in another thread earlier today (since it's seeming like AHDO and OWB deluxe sets are much less likely now), then proceeded to go down a rabbit hole afterwards looking through all the related tracks for that again on Discogs.
I realized something that I hadn't before for it: there's enough of the solo track versions that have been officially released to already make an amazing album of their own. Collecting these independent tracks together as a disc of extras/alternates (many of them longer, especially the infamous 20-minute Ancient Phat Farm Coat) should be easy to do since already edited/mastered for release and would also make a nicely representative sampling of Riverrun. I count seven tracks across all the remix EPs and the Japan-only JAL to Tokyo EP (let me know if any others I missed). There's also a potential 9-minute doubled in length mix of Mowed Path from some Metropolis Group CDr for I'm A Big Sister that I'm not sure of, but the other track times on it seem legit and would be interesting (if anyone knows anything about that one). Anyway these seem reasonable and worthwhile to collect, and would be about 66 minutes all together. The JAL to Tokyo EP would be a great option to expand out for packaging this, since it already contained three of these tracks and had its own specific cover. Digital-only re-release would probably be easiest (and fitting considering), but still a good option for CD and even double-vinyl (one can hope). JAL To Tokyo (Riverrun Series Sampler) 1 JAL To Tokyo (Underworld Riverrun Version) 5:47 2 Peggy Sussed (Underworld Riverrun Version) 2:20 3 Food A Ready 7:22 4 Vanilla Monkey (Underworld Riverrun Version) 5:12 5 Ancient Phat Farm Coat 19:43 6 Play Pig (Underworld Riverrun Version) 3:55 7 Mowed Path 9:04 8 Peach Tree 12:35 |
Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
Back at it again - honestly hadn't thought about this anymore, but the recent IIU video posting made me check this forum again and reminded me of potential for Riverrun this year. Dove into Discogs again today and paid more attention to the Chrysalis Group advance music releases for all the Riverruns.
Those all have unmixed tracks with extended times, so I assembled from them hopefully the ultimate representative collection which covers all three releases evenly, chronologically, popularly, and includes tracks with the most extended times. It's also barely under 80 min to fit on a CD and breaks well for double vinyl sides. A lot to hope for an actual release of, but somebody should make a fan mix of this if have access to them. :) Extended Chrysalis Version 1 JAL To Tokyo 5:47 2 Peggy Sussed 2:24 3 Lenny Penne 10:25 4 Back In The Fears 6:09 5 Vanilla Monkey 5:37 6 Play Pig 5:08 7 Ancient Phat Farm Coat 19:43 8 11 Hundred Hz 2:29 9 Mowed Path 9:04 10 Peach Tree 12:35 |

Re: Possible Riverrun Boxset?
...I had no idea that some of those versions existed! I was only aware of the full length tracks off of the 12" series, 'Food A Ready' on the Vexille soundtrack, and that long version of 'Ancient Phat Farm Coat'
It would be awesome to hear a long version of 'Back In The Fears' |
