Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
i don't think i've ever heard this one. i have the live broadcast with air towel and that but i think my main attitude when they mentioned the misterons was "what even is that, i don't care" so it passed me by...

Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
Well, aren't you in for a treat?

Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
Has anything resembling a tracklist appeared?

Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
I don't think anything officially has been posted.
But, this is how I separated the tracks Spoonman (Alt) - 9:29 Dark & Long (Alt) - 5:39 Mmm... Skyscraper? - 12:36 Dirty (Alt) - 15:20 Dirty (Ambiance) - 5:25 Mother Earth (Long Version) - 10:27 It'd be great to know what the actual tracks are - like, I'm curious if that song with the 'Skyscraper-ish' beats actually has a name, plus I hate just using "Alt" to differentiate mixes Also - thanks for bringing this thread up, I hadn't listened to this mix in a long time! I wasn't a huge fan of the first 10-15 minutes, so I didn't really listen to it until I figured out how to split mp3's |

Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
The version of Dark & Long (I think) did appear as a free download on UWlive at one point before the release of this mix. Did that have a title?

I just did a quick comparison, and I think you're right - it is the same version the download was titled: Dark and Long (Dark Train Jam) |
Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
Anyone here have a Soundcloud Go account??? I heard that Go members get higher streaming quality. Has anyone with a Go account tried ripping Saved From The Cutting Room Floor Mix? I heard Go is 256kbps instead of the usual 128kbps. If possible, figure the best we can get. I wish UW would put it up on their Bandcamp. Tried tagging them and messaging them suggesting it.

Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
Thanks for the upgrade! This Skyscraper jam is really top notch, always blows me away that this is the stuff that *didn't* make the cut.

I've listened to this thing many times over the years and I found the fidelity upgrade really profound. Might just be my ears, of course. But I was really delighted.

And this is old news, but 128 to 256 mbs is not that discernible an improvement: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...-256-kbps.html |

"256 AAC is equivalent, if not slightly better than 320 MP3. The high-frequency encoding is more efficient (more faithful to the original audio)." Hence the audible difference. So, yes, those who want this in the best possible quality, there is reason to be excited. Is it ok for us to be happy? |

I wish you total happiness in all your UW listening experiences and am sorry I ever doubted your discerning ears! 😜
And yes, it is a fantastic mix, regardless of the bitrate. I grew up appreciating whatever I got, especially for free. |
Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
Personally i'm used to the 128, but of course higher can sound better.
I've never been an audiophile. So even uncompressed 192/48 bluray audio is better, but I don't have the equipment for it. I used to listen to things on headphones a lot more in the 90's, and 00's. But in the 10's, and 20's, i usually just listen on the computer, or in the car. So, all this audio improvement isnt really that noticeable. And I don't have that great of an audio system in my car (or previous one). I had a ghetto USB speaker system that I used to hook up to my phone for playback. Currently I am using car speakers, hooked up to a USB (Cassette player shaped) MP3 player (that uses microSD cards - how retro is that). I got tired of choosing playlists through my phone, so I custom select tracks for the microSD card, and switch them like albums or short playlists on the USB player. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....AC_SL1001_.jpg convoluted, i know. but it works for me. later -1 |

As for headphones, I have Audio Technica ATH-M50Xs. For home stereo listening, I use my studio computer with a Roland MX-1 24/96 audio interface/mixer into Tannoy Reveal 802 studio monitors, which sound lovely. |
Re: Saved from the cutting room floor mix* - Underworld vs The Misterons
I've done listening tests and I can't tell the difference between 256kbps mp3 and FLAC, so going a step further into 24/48 and such would be a total waste of time and money for me. I'm much more interested in the tunes than the sound quality over a certain point anyway.

i don't think i ever want to listen to bluetooth audio, or wireless. its just sounds like a hassle. one of the reason i still use an ancient windows 7 phone, is it has a headphone jack, and outputs at full volume to headphones and speakers. i have a newer phone that i don't use that has a headphone jack, but the output is terrible. later -1 |

I'm pretty certain this message board now discusses bitrates and lossy / lossless audio more than it does Underworld

But I really shouldn't have entered the fray...I was a 21 year old grad student listening to a CD player while the 18 year olds had new iPods. Old fart! I was fine with whatever bitrate I could download freely as long as it was listenable. I'm still pissed that my 2017 model car has no CD player and I have to rip to a USB (Bluetooth is poop). Where's the spontaneity of picking a daily album to listen to on your commute? But I get it, we want and expect a certain quality now. Sure, I don't want to listen to music that sounds like crap. But as I said above, the latest remasters are often unlistenable, too. And as a producer, I'm very appreciative of anything released for free. Look, if you first heard "Born Slippy" on a dubbed cassette, a FLAC file might make your week. Or, you might always associate that first listen with the fidelity of it's time. I'm not interested in debating which "sounds better". Our listening experiences are unique. By the way, been listening to digital versions of tracks from artists I first heard on some lo fi cassette dubs. Yeah, I hear new elements, but mostly I just enjoy the rediscovery and nostalgia. Upgrades are nice but the format debate is old and boring. |
