but yeah, i suppose this one will be BIG with the lager lager shouting chav crowd at glasto and the likes. all it needs is a PHAT light show and a blaring sound system so that you can't really hear the piss-poor melody they got going on. i mean, the "salmon dance" was shite too, but at least it didn't drag on for 12 sodding minutes. NOW GALVANIZE! *opens a can of stella with his teeth* |

oh and please, no underworld covers unless they are pre-AHDO ;) |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
ok, no one is doing UW covers. Sure, we compare to what we know. But the Chems have never really been on the same wavelength as Underworld. Big beat in one corner, with delusions of psychodelia and hip hop versus something entirely more progressive and genre-bending in the other under world.
Still, i'm not disappointed after hearing but ONE new Chemical Brothers track. I like the concept of "Further", i like the long instru jam of this track, and i hope it's sustainable over a full LP. If the Chems have the guts to make a mostly instrumental record of sustained jams, it'll be an improvement over the last 2 LPs and more in the spirit of their first 2 records. |

The cover for the album:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA600_.jpg Looks awesome; reminds me of the artwork for elektrobank. |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
Yeah, nice cover photo... i really liked the psychodelic/random photos of the Exit Planet Dust and Dig Your Own Hole era, designed by Blue Source. The incorporation of screenprints got kind of old after four albums.
Really hoping the music's a throwback to their mid-late 90's era, too! |

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
It's really not that bad of a track...it just does not work well sitting in front of a computer with headphones on, or perhaps even in a car. I heard this for the first time last year at Coachella and it worked really well in that environment.

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
i have to say, i don't think the Chemies have ever put out a lame video for any of their songs.
( yes, Salmon Dance song sucks, but the video is wicked ). you UK Roundhouse attendees should consider yourself lucky. |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
this vid just makes it more annoying

i keep hearing this track in different places and before i was indifferent but i'm really starting to hate it |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
I'm hoping that video clip is just a preview of what it would look like without some type of motion capture effect. If it's just that alone for the song, then it is lacking a lot from The Chemical Brothers' usual video footage that they play live, which is incredible.

too bad we all can't get together when it comes out and have a party...

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
what's with all the Salmon Dance hate? That track is fun :)
|
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
Agreed. I also like Salmon Dance. It's not epic or anything, but it's a fun track to break the tension on the album. I was just glad they don't release another song like "Left Right" from Push the Button. That's the only chemical brothers track that comes to mind where I absolutely can not listen to.

Only part of the song i kind of enjoy are the ad libs between Sammy the Salmon and Fatlip. "Wow, how interesting. Salmons pay attention to the mooon?" "Who's hungry?" :P Anyway, it gets skipped a little less than my other least favorite CB track, "Left Right". i dunno. The past two records have had their moments, but not enough to enthuse me like the first 4 records did. |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
I actually like "the Salmon Dance" even more than "Galvanize"
I mean - at least "Salmon..." is a funny, happy, sort of tongue in cheek sort of track, but every time I hear "galvanize" ... it just sounds like someone is trying waaay too hard (or - like the Sesame Street rap example) ...having said that - yea - "Left Right" might be one of the worst Chems tracks EVER. |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
that whole album is filed under Best Left Forgotten (Because It's Shit) as far as i'm concerned!
|
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
I don't get the Salmon Dance hate either. Its not like it was meant to be really great or anything. Probably the Chems themselves see it as "stupid".

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
i also wonder how they got that pharcyde guy to rap on their "stupid" tune. or how they convinced the label to pay a shitload of $$$ for an equally ridiculous music video and even RELEASED IT AS A SINGLE! now why would one want to go through all of that if it "wasn't meant to be great or anything".
sorry, but i think they really took the whole thing very serious. as in "we seriously want to release a fun track". too bad it turned out shite. but to come back to the topic at hand: i haven't heard anything else of "further", so here's still hope... |

You can listen to the first 30 seconds. To be short, I'm unimpressed by the clip; actually gives me a bit of a headache from that one swirling sample. There's a bunch of youtube videos floating around from the chemical brothers playing that track live, but the sound quality doesn't really help. On a side note, I think the cover art is ace. |
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
i quite like the sound of that!
|
Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
Well that could very well be the case Eikman, I don't see it as much different from stuff like "Crank That", kinda a fun tune, not exactly good or worth listening to over and over, but I wouldn't hate on the group because of it. I don't know why they released it as a single any more than you do. It's not like WATN didn't have its share of longer and heavier tracks to balance that out. I thought some of it was very good.

i've forgotten just about every note. some notes i've forced from my memory; but most of it just went in and out straight away. much like 'ahdo' for me...* *in terms of impact, not sound. obviously. |

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
Cool video - song was ok, liked it when it got a bit more chilled for a few bars ~2 min in. The main synth lead with the pitchslide is, as someone on youtube noted, very Orbital-esque. But in true Chems fashion, they tweak the high frequencies, here to an almost painful degree. I'm hoping the full-length version is a bit more interesting and varied.
