Re: ambient underworld
i listen to a lot of ambient music and id have to agree that oich oich etc are not ambient...way too uptempo..i'd class 'to heal' as ambient...its very similar in style to eno's 'an ending(ascent)..the trouble these days is that a lot of record companies put out stuff such as the best ambient album in the world and lump in a load of commercial stuff that is nothing like what id consider even the slightest bit ambient...its more downtempo chill out..im currently listening to a band called marconi union from manchester...very ambient with some similarities to underworld's quieter moments...hazy guitars weaving through soundscapes...underworlds collaboration on the sunshine and breaking and entering ost's are what id consider ambient also..
love the vid on facebook of them blowing up the ipod touch....hehe |
Re: ambient underworld
If anybody is able to upload a rip of those tracks from Everything Everything, I'd be much obliged! I'm having an absolutely shocking time trying to source a copy in Melbourne right now...

Re: ambient underworld
I know this is a bit of a late addition to this thread, but regarding the "Ambient Mix by AVID", as a newcomer to this forum i have a few questions.
Firstly (not a question) wow, what a lovely mix, and thank you for posting it. But (here the questions) what exactly is the tracklisting? I've made a bit of a guess: 1 0.00 something... (John Peel story) 2 4.28 Showlder 3 6.52 something... ("Congratulations...") 4 7.22 Most ospitable 5 13.08 To Heal and restore broken bodies 6 14.34 something... (Talking clock) 7 24.02 Ansum 8 27.03 Ambient Beautiful Burnout 9 30.12 Japanese voice over Beautiful Burnout 10 33.19 more upbeat Beautiful Burnout 11 36.21 something... (organ - strings - choir - piano) 12 40.07 Ansum 13 45.20 + voice talking about Welsh 14 46.54 Ancient Phat farm Coat 15 49.37 + something... (Talking clock) I would love to know what the 'somethings' are and (particularly) where they are from. I really like the ambient mix of Beautiful Burnout; where the hell is that from????? There was a remix on the old underworldlive which has a bit of the section with the Japanese voice, but not much of it... Anyway, it's wonderful and i'd love to hear it all (are parts 8-10 the same track?) I also really love the bit with Ansum mixed with the voice talking about the Welsh language! Anyway, i'd love to find out, so any information would be gratefully recieved. Thanks |
Re: ambient underworld
My mp3 of this is tagged as such:
Dinner at Rod's Choppo Showlder Most 'Ospitable To Heal and Restore Alabaster White Thing Quick Bit of Rope For Web Biro The Leggy ('04) Something Ambient (5/06) Bear of Man Primrose Hill Ansum Ancient Fat Farm Coat |
Re: ambient underworld
What darktrain posted is correct!
Glad it was enjoyed. Wow, how time flies! It was a fun mix to make. |
Re: ambient underworld
FYI: Alabaster White Thing was by Freur...so it's still Rick and Karl but still nearly a decade before any of those other tracks (!). I don't know the story behind it ....was it a 12"?

Re: ambient underworld
I am too very fond of this mix. Sometimes after a tough early morning shift of taking the Darktrain to beautiful Birmingham New Street (It aint!) I need a lie down and stick this mix on,but................ Biro The Leggy has beats! Whats the reason for adding this Holden?

Re: ambient underworld
I actually love that these beats happen (I didn't know if this was one mix - which it is - or 3 different ones) but it worked for me, giving the overall mix a nice shape; stops it becoming predictable!
Anyway, i think "Biro" is fab; i always loved Beautiful Burnout in it's album version and the other remix they did (the upbeat one that was on underworldlive - is that the same as the "R59 live mix"?) So was "Biro" only ever available through a radio show? If it doesn't break any of the rules of this site, could some kind person point me in the direction of where i could find a copy? (It doesn't appear to be on the RTSR tracker...) Sorry to be so demanding, but it is a wonderful piece of music, i had to ask... |
Re: ambient underworld
Many thanks for those responsible for the ambient mix by avid (the mixing and the downloading). Have just plonked it onto my usb stick (I have to use my local library for the internet nowadays). Hopefully it will be in pride of place on the iPod when I get home.

[QUOTE=combustible pants;119280]ive always been a fan of underworlds quieter/ambient moments...theyve done some fantastic stuff over the years...ie second hand,best mamgu,cherry pie,sunshine ost
Yes I love their ambient stuff.....some of my favourites:

Re: ambient underworld
In my opinion Showlder is their best ambient track. Should've been the nine-minute one, not Wedge.

Re: ambient underworld
Sorry for digging this thread up but I noticed that some essential ambient tracks have not been mentioned.
The obvious ones are:

Re: ambient underworld
Well I'm not sure where you would have found the others on the site, and it's kind of a moot point anyway considering Uwlive is no longer accessible through the archive. You might want to write to someone at the site about adding an exception to robots.txt, but even then I'm not sure that archive.org would keep the old pages.
|
Re: ambient underworld
Well it used to be pretty visible on the site back then (in the dailydiary section as far as I remember). You could stream it in a quicktime format and download it easily (I didn't because I was sure it would be released somehow... what a fool). It was part of a working progress for the next album, OWB.
So I'm pretty sure someone stored them. Hopefully it will emerge someday. Btw there's a whole thread about Fonestrap, with a bunch of (dead) links... |
Re: ambient underworld
Phonestrap (all 6 versions) is available for purchase on the Underworld Shop, so download links to those tracks here are not allowed.

Re: ambient underworld
Nobody listened to the Dark and Long mix 215 miles?
Great mix between ambient and groove. It's 20 minutes long. Together with Thing in a Book my favorite. |
Re: ambient underworld
Let's add Most 'Ospitable then too!
|
Re: ambient underworld
I had the DVD, but gave them all away to a flea marked when I threw away my dvd player. I have ripped the concert section before I gave it away, but didn't know about the ambient pieces on the disk before now! Any way to get hold of them in any other way than to buy the DVD again?
