Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
It's called Twitter for a reason...
It's retarded to want to share with everyone what you had for breakfast. It's why children make poor converstionalists over long periods ( they don't how to filter whats interesting from what people don't want or need to hear) Indeed they tend to twitter which is sweet but... Twitter ( The online version) is dangerous because it fills up our time with the mundane and the ordinary which masquerade as the profound. Something like Ring Road on the other hand is a powerful work of art because it elevates the mundane and the ordinary and draws our attention to its hidden beauty through the mix of: spoken words, music, a cohesive creative idea (a journey around a town) and a time limit! I don't buy Twitter as a "sketch pad" either. A sketch pad needs to be intimate to be a real testing ground of ideas for the artist - full of stuff he or she wouldn't normally want people to see. Having written all of the above I don't deny any one the right to Twitter or question the enjoyment it provides. Just like I have a McDonalds around once a month and enjoy it greatly - I enjoy it even more by not fooling mysef it's Haute Cuisine. |
Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
i think you should write more about twitter in relation to profound works of art.

Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
Er, not sure what you mean?
But on a more constructive note. Wouldn't Twitter be a great idea for a song? The stuff of Twitter I mean: Disjointed sentences, several repetitive overlapping musical voices, words about everyday things. Ideal for UW. |

Indeed twitter can be boring, when looked at it from one angle. Yet that's not the only thing it can be. Broaden your view ;)! |
Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
Unless it's a friend I know in "real life," I don't follow people on Twitter nor use it myself for updates on dining habits or complaining about being tired. I think it's grown away from such a purpose and can be something valuable, particularly in the information department (I find out about world events quicker on Twitter than I do perusing online news sites). Also, I think a lot of people do not abide by shorthand or texting shortcuts to post there and instead write in complete sentences, despite the character limit (I've noticed some people will make three posts in a row to convey a thought in an eloquent manner). But like most social networks, it really depends on who you are interacting with that will form a negative or positive opinion of a place. I mean, I definitely don't go browsing on Twitter for random things. If I did, I'm sure I would then have boywithjavelin's view that's it's useless and filled with spambots or people who can't type.
In Underworld's case, I love it since the Twitter posts are like a shortened version of the Underworldlive posts. I'm not saying it's better than Underworldlive (those have them pretty pictures!). I'm just saying it's useful for when one does not happen to have computer access and needs an instant fix of Karl or Rick's musings. Like what stimpee mentioned: it's easy to look at on a mobile device (hooray for apps). |
Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
"An instant fix of Karl and Rick's musings" Are you sure?

Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
I do enjoy hearing about Karl meeting with Eno to review the Pure Scenius recordings or about Rick working on Diamond Jigsaw. It's an interesting window into the Process, and the Underworld feeds are relatively free of the mundane, cake and supermodels aside. Are supermodels mundane?

Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
Changes afoot in Twitter-land. Karl gets his own feed. And abandons the Underworld feed?
So what happens to the Underworld feed? Is the experiment over? I hope they don't just change it into some lame marketing announcements feed or something like that. Karl's lyrical musings are part of what makes Underworld Underworld, and I thought that was represented nicely in the Underworld Twitter. |
Re: There's the Underworld Twitter
sounds like rick is tapping out
Friends I'm tired tired of the tedious tweet poetry. Like an over- used fart joke. Know what i mean? I'm going home. Xxx yeaaaaaah right, he'll be back |
