Re: Voters -- American Badasses
I realized recently that a larger percentage of eligible americans vote than united kingdom citizens do. Losers!
Too bad I have to go in at 4:30... :( |
Re: Voters -- American Badasses
I found this via Huffington Post just now.
http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2...y-2-years-ago/ Exactly two years ago, SurveyUSA completed interviews with 600 voters in every state (30,000 total interviews), asking them how they would vote in a 2008 Presidential Election between John McCain and Barack Obama. Based on those interviews, SurveyUSA was able to report that: In November 2006, Obama carried …
In November 2006, John McCain carried 48 states, and rolled up 510 electoral votes. How far has Barack Obama come in 24 months? We’ll know for sure Tuesday night. http://www.surveyusa.com/wp-content/...1/ecv-2006.png |
Re: Voters -- American Badasses
It took me 2 hours to vote. This is my first time voting, so I don't know if this is longer than usual. I seem to be getting the vibe that it is.

Re: Voters -- American Badasses
From Justin Webb's BBC blog...
"Out and about this morning in Northern Virginia and DC I met all the expected enthusiasm, though no long lines - no signs of people turning up and going away again. But this fact in itself is causing concern among Democrats: where is the turnout, they murmur? Where is the record-breaking surge (I am talking now about Virginia in particular) which could propel Obama to the White House? The answer may well be that the surge came early. Or will come later. Or..." Oh God. I'm going to wake up tomorrow and be told that you guys somehow managed to re-elect George Bush, I just know it. |
Re: Voters -- American Badasses
Well, a lot of people did vote early and with absentee ballots. Also, most people are working during the day.

Re: Voters -- American Badasses
There'll probably be an upswing after work at the end of the day. I know that's when I'll be going. But in a meeting I had this morning with 6 other people, I think three voted early. So maybe a big chunk has already voted.
Aside from that, I saw a polling place just down the street from work that had a pretty long line, and as the polls opened by my house there was a long line too. The line was gone a couple hours later though. We'll see, but I sure hope everyone's voting. EDIT - Okay, here we go. The L.A. Times is reporting voters already turning out in record numbers. By noon, 38.1% of L.A. County registered voters had already cast their ballots compared to 33.4% in 2004. That doesn't sound huge, but considering that there are 4.3 million registered voters here, that means an extra 202,100 people. |
Re: Voters -- American Badasses
There are a LOT of people out there voting today, make no mistake about that.
I understand this guy is in the tank for Obama but check his blog: http://www.andrewsullivan.com he is posting messages from voters at the polling places. |
Re: Voters -- American Badasses
I waited 0 seconds to vote. I guess I got there at the right time as night time voting tends to take awhile.
1 vote for Obama/Biden, check. |
