I would say use VMWare Fusion over parallels. Runs a lot smoother in my experience.

Obviously if you want full hardware access for XP - then you'll have to run Boot Camp - but if you're wanting to run OS X apps side by side with XP - Fusion is brilliant.

Dragging and dropping a file from the OS X finder into the XP desktop - and then using said file is very cool.
