Someone else mentioned this before, but there is a Riverrun DJ Sampler CD promo out there. It has some great remixes of JAL, Play Pig, Vanilla Monkey and Peggy Sussed. 6 tracks, about 45 minutes. It's not unmixed, but pretty good remixes. Good stuff.

yeah, it was up there for a while...couldn't resist...
besides, i just got them all on vinyl also..
i prefer those, for the extra tracks, and the covers/packaging..

I'm fine with the mp3s, although I'd be happer with FLAC. I like the way they approached digital releases with the riverrun project becuase it came with the photos and extra content that didn't make sense in the CD world - it kind of changed my perspective on digital distribution.

Aside from the sound quality, I think a significant part of the appeal of an UW physical CD release is the style and care that goes into the way it's packaged and presented. Most UW discs (even the singles) are put together in a way that makes them satisfying to hold and own, and not just for the hard core fan. They're thingular.

extra...i don't think it had to be digital only. why wouldn't that make

Ok, true, but I hate enhanced CDs. Most of them blow. The digital thing seems more natural. A nice complete digital package where all the elements are part of the whole. Enhanced CDs (in my mind) are like an afterthought - a little extra data to supplement your experience rather than be an integral part of it. I suppose its context of delivery? I admit it would all bascially amount to the same amount of content in the end.

Let me put it this way - with the extra content in the digital release I feel satisfied in filling the hole left by not having a physical product. In the physical release the packaging is the context, where here that context (or same type of experience) shifts to the digital world.

Remember the Daft Club player? That thing was total junk.

well, in contrast, i didn't like riverrun all that much. i felt that it was all incomplete studio tracks- none of them stood out to me at all, really. i was disappointed by them. however, from what i've heard from the new album, it is much much better in comparison- and i'm looking forward to opening the mailbox on 15 Oct.

Although I would like to have riverrun as cd(rom), I think we forget that for them it was a web based idea. Produce tracks, put them on the web to spread and get direct reactions through the boards. That's what karl tells in each and every interview. Kinda arty concept thingy or something ;)
