Re: The New Order / Factory Thread

anthony wilson's son talking to new order members to reform for tony wilson concert. they are all positive. so lets see what will happen? they're astonishing live when they hate each other. :)

i listened new order tracks from control soundtrack. they're all cute instrumentals in salvation soundtrack style, dont expect new songs anyway.

reading bernard sumner biography "confusion".

recommended.

the docu on bbc 4 friday night was quality................new order talking about factory ploughing their royalties into the hac was a particular highlight :D that and Tony Wilson saying 'when the hac first opened, we opened it every night, we sort of viewed it as a public service'

I never heard any New Order, what would be a good place to start? The only thing I've listened to by them was Joy Divison's Closer album, and besides "Isolation" I didn't really like it too much (although I can see how others would).

well for a basic overall summary is best to start here:

http://www.discogs.com/release/543435

personally, i and many others think Technique is the best album, but all the hits are on 'singles' and probably in their simplest form - in their original single format its the best place to start,

there have been loads of compilations substance, international, retro... all are worth checking because they showcase the bands entire career....

JD is a bit harsher... and probably worth going back to if you enjoy the stuff mentioned above...

have fun... i listen to New Order more than Underworld, but don't tell anyone....

Re: The New Order / Factory Thread

I was introduced with them via Substance, a 2 disc singles collection released in 1987. I would either go with that or 'International', which is a modern best-of. Note that Substance was done before 'Technique', which as already mentioned is very good.

"power, corruption & lies" album and famously non-album singles around -1981-1983 era could be a good introduction. everything is in art state.

I'd say either get "Substance" (which was my first NO purchase), which collects most/all of their 12" singles & some bsides

unfortunately - the release only goes up through 1987, so you might want to get "Singles" which collects all of their 7" singles

Substance is probably the best start.
