Re: Superman Returns

While I realize I mentioned my utter dislike of Superman on the X3 thread, my friends talked me into going.
Superman Returns was better than I expected, but I expected the worst.

I felt like Spacey and Posey were really the highlights of the film and was interested by the angle that Lex is trying to "check" Superman's all powerful self (with a profit for himself of course).
I was also very put off by the creepy stalker vibe of Supes.

Oh, and here's the comic geek in me, Metropolis was based on Toronto not NY. NYC is Gotham. I don't mean to say that the city in the film should have looked like Toronto, but maybe a lot less like New York.

All in all, I was very bored and wish I had 6.50 of my $8.50 back. This is without a doubt a film to see in the second-run discount theater.

I tried to keep from laughing when I saw this scene because it reminded me of this:

this movie was damn good.

I agree with this man. Didn't really get Luthor's plan, and yeah, somethings could've been tightened up a bit, but I really did like it.

BIRDSHIT ISLAND! :D

the best part is that it was divided into states

re: superman as a stalker
dude is in love. can't expect aliens to know what's creepy or unacceptable. he just acts according to himself and what he observes. so he's dorky clark kent as what he thinks dorky is, he upholds the vague concept of "good" unfailingly as superman, and love is something he's dealing with in his own odd way. yes, this makes him seem vacant and super-distant, but i rather llike this interpretation of how simply someone who is, after all, AN ALIEN, acts.

another best scene: the elevator. kent is totally goofed out and she's having none of it. i dont know why it was so funny.

a friend said she was reminded of me when luthor went into the "i just want to hear it one more time. i just want you to say it" with a perverse delight.

i dont know how i feel about that

I know this is late but...

I finally saw this last night. I was extremely hesitant due to the negative press it got here, but I must say that I totally dug it. I didn't feel it was too long. I thought that there was enough action. I liked all the aspect of Superman that they went into that they didn't do in the old movies. I thought it was great that they continued the storyline and pulled it off, in my book. I liked the piano to the head. I liked how the use of todays special effects made Superman much more cooler and more 'realistic'. All in all, there wasn't really anything I didn't like enough about it to make me think bad of it.

I wish I would've seen it on IMAX.

Aside from the bigger screen, the IMAX version of this movie is really nothing special. They advertise it as 3D but it's really only about 15-minutes through the entire film. They pick really weird sequences to do in 3D too. Like... the beginning credits? perhaps the best most made-for-3D beginning titles of all time? nah, they're flat. Never mind that they are completely CG and would have been dead easy to convert. Instead, you get a 3D cornfield when he's running through it yay! The shuttle sequence is in 3D, which does look awesome. and somewhere around the island-making climax it goes into 3D again... I can't remember exactly where... so for most of the movie you're just holding the dumb glasses and waiting. Kind of a waste in my opinion.
