I thought the Scarecrow was awesome.

Is this assuming continuity with prior Superman movies? They seem to be talking about his absence and return...or is that just a plot element self-contained in the new flick?

From what I've heard, they're placing this movie after the second Superman film and disregarding movies 3 and 4. Hence the title, Superman Returns.

that's what i understand, but also there are a few flashbacks to him growing up and him using his powers for the first time (almost like a catch up, i suppose)

its not just Superman Returns, in terms of back to our movies screens, its really Superman Returns from somewhere far away and things have changed (Lois, and this is not a spoiler, because its in the trailer, is Married with Kids) so he has to adapt to that for one...i assume he returns to save the day...
