Re: Depeche Mode - Suffer Well (loads of top remixers) /Album remasters reissued

well, i do usually get remasters from most groups
just for the extra tracks...however, i might pass
this time...

i don't have a sound system that would take
advantage of them...however, i know that
some of the original pressings came out ages
ago, and very probably analog-> digital mastering

whereas now its all digital -> digital

i heard quite on difference on all the single greatest
hits releases, and 3cd release of the remix set had
really good mastering...but as far as the latter albums
go, i don't think there would be much of a difference..

i was trying to point out, that since they had a DVD
storage to work with, how hard would it have been
to also include all the mixes, etc on there, and leave
out some of the other surround sound versions..

i notice that theres going to be 3 versions
-cd+SACD (who uses this format?)
-collectors SACD version (again, who uses that format?)+DVD
-normal cd+DVD version (i hope this is not the dualdisc format)

i think they could have done a better job
with the formats...thats all..

I wouldn't mind updating my version of Violator.

What a great album.

yea... that's prolly one of the only albums I'll actually get in this remastered format (and finally buy 'Music for the Masses')

I know a lot of people will get pissed at me saying this, but...
I actually prefer their output from Violator onward overall than their earlier albums. I mean - there's some incredible tracks from the previous albums, but again... it's just some great "tracks" and not necessarily albums.

I understand them not putting on the remixes, esp as those boxsets are still easy to get, especially as all of them are on iTunes, but I would've hoped that maybe some outtakes could be added onto the albums, but whatever, you know?

I'm with you on this.

As an album, give me Ultra over Music for the Masses/Black Celebtration/Speak and Spell/etc anyday.

IMO Black Celebration began "it all".
Music for the Masses Is great and Violator is excellent. SoFaD was
medi-ochre at best. Ultra was okay but I do think the new record takes them back to form. DjEddy will disagree. (:) )

For me BC started it all too. SGR was ok-ish in places but still a little primitive. MTFM and V are DM at their peak. SOFAD took me a long time to get into but I like it a lot now. Ultra has some great tracks but its patchy (although the people they got to remix those tracks was inspired). Exciter was a bit of a let down but the new one is a return to form. I'm not bothered about putting tracks from the box sets on these releases tho, but some demos would have been nice. AFAIK, the "harmonium mix" of Enjoy The Silence was the demo.

So I *acquired* these trax and I must say the Tiga and M83 trax are by far the stand out trax. The monolake wasn't included unfortunately. I'll have to hunt that un' down.

Here's hoping they'll release a long US box set of sorts for this record.

unfortunately, I don't think this is going to happen. "Pain I'm Used To' was iTunes only, and on the DM webpage, they say that there's no plan for a physical release (only digital) for 'Suffer Well'

...I don't really mind - but it's still kind of disappointing, you know?

Re: Depeche Mode - Suffer Well (loads of top remixers) /Album remasters reissued

it SURE is. I mean why release all the "new" singles via a box if you aren't going to continue to release cd's?

in the meantime I found this:
http://archives.depechemode.com/disc...ufferwell.html
it doesn't mention the monolake single there anywhere. (did I miss it?)
NEVER mind. I see it on the main page along with a teaser mp3...

crAnK!

As I'm listening to Better Days, I quite like it. Quite dark and NASTY. Not really the DM we know either. well, erm I mean, it's DM, but it's different. just check it out...

Chris..let me tell you the progress of DM's albums:

speak & spell and a broken frame is when they are flirting with you.
construction time again is when you buy the drinks.
some great reward is when you invite them to your house.
black celebration is foreplay.
'music for the masses' is when they're pumping
'violator' gives us the money shot.
'SOFD' is that cigarrette after sex.
ultra is when you're asleep.
exciter wakes you up.
and playing the angel is morning breath.

capiche?

that said...didnt i remember reading here a while back a thread that mentioned Martin disapproving the selection of remixes/remixers used to remake their songs on PTA? is this one of those 'disapproved' cuts? (curious)
