damn Liam, this is a good thesis. I'm sure your writing has gotten better thru time, but I think that what you're saying makes a lot of sense - it's especially nice to read your views on electronic music and the perceptions of it in the public eye &c. I also think the charts are quite impressive... you did your homework on this! I hope you did real good.

Re: "Dark & Long" as a thesis

I took the IB at the United World College of the Atlantic in South Wales. I now study at St. John's College, Annapolis Maryland, a small libral arts school where we read and discuss the greatest works of Western philosopy, literature, science, maths, history etc.

While none of this relates to Underworld directly, I still find Underworld a greater part of my life than anything else. As far as I am concerned, they perfected electronic music, and their live material from roughly between 1994 and 1999 is the equivalent of the masterpeices of Beithoven, Bach and the 18th century classical period (a loose analogy, but still worthy I think). They are able to combine overwhelmingly beautiful sounds with technical brilliance, so that the music is beautiful when you listen and beautiful when you analyse. I realised when I was writing my essay that I could write a book about Underworld. I talked about one element of one version of one track, and even then had to cut myself short.

Incidentally, I triend once to get a copy through to Rick and Karl, but I don't think it worked. I have no idea if they have ever seen it, but I would be very interested to hear what they say. My work is, in every way, a tribute to their genius.
