It would be very sad indeed if Karl and Rick would go separate ways.

I dunno, "parting ways" seems a little premature. Hopefully it's a detour, not a dissolution.

Perhaps, as jetpig suggested, the work will just be sifted into different channels (just as UW and Tomato have been for years). Rick'll have his soundtrack work under his own name, Karl his art exhibitions. And every so often they'll meet to give us the glorious whirlwind that is Underworld.

As long as they still perform every few years somewhere in between the US coasts, I'll be happy. :D

I recall them saying in interviews a few years back that this was the direction they wanted to head in. Being able to focus on their myriad side projects and getting together every once in a while to concentrate their artistic impulses into Underworld awesomeness - if I remember correctly they even said they wanted to eventually defer the Underworld moniker on to a new generation! I'm sure there would be a lot of takers on this forum.

Erm...after 30 years+ of working together, people are allowed time off from each other. Look at Radiohead for example and their different side projects. Outkast have gone 6 years with no new material.

Fear not. Anyway, I've not got a proper cut of Bamboo ;)

They had their time off, in 1990. Back to work, boys! ;)

I'm taking your wink as sarcasm ;P

But really, i agree with the above. If you're in a collaborative relationship for as long as R&K, you'll no doubt have your unique artistic directions to forge and identities to explore. We are comfortable with both from 20+ years of Underworld, so we'll no doubt welcome and enjoy revelations from solo output. Stick the UW stamp on it and we "expect" a familiarity, too, and maybe the sum's greater than the parts? In any case, as long as that UW output is available, i welcome the diversions and side projects.
