wow, sounds like my feelings on the game as well :P

Re: Doom

Saw The Rock interviewed on The Daily Show and, after all the spoilers he let fly, and considering how entertaining the interview was, I figured that's as close as I'd need to get to seeing the actual movie. Funny to see what a gaming geek Stewart is.

It's a shame it's such a disappointment, but then again, it's not like there's a lot of material to work with.

don't really care about doom or the rock or seeing doom starring the rock, but i just want to add Starship Troopers is a great film.

i don't get why they went the route of a virus attack when invading demons from hell would've made a perfectly good story, plus they wouldn't have had to skimp on the monsters. they could've made them completely bad ass AND have added the cyberdemon, cacodemons, real pinkies, imps, the works!

i think they shyed away from the Hell angle because they didn't want any problems with the religious right... which seems to be driving this country nowadays...

not necessarily this, but that including themes of hell and demons would shrink the size of the potential audience quite a bit, meaning less profits for the studio. Thus a virus story was chosen because it has a wider audience.

These answers both dismay me in equal measure...

... into the ground.

Hmm... hadn't thought of it that way before, but you may be on to something.

I saw this movie, and it was exactly what I expected. Low expectations, and you will not be disappointed. To be fair, I can't say that I'd recommend this movie.

I don't know much about Doom3, but I think that's what the movie followed the most, at least visually. It had all the par plot twists for a shitty sci-fi movie, plus the ambiguous ending. The FPS scene was alright, since it was the closest to the feeling of the video game. I think most people who wanted to see this really wanted it to resemble classic Doom. Yeah it would be sweet to see the original monsters and hell plot. But honestly, would you want to see a movie all about weapons upgrade and pixelated fireballs? Maybe.

Re: Doom

I'm kind of stumped as to why there's an FPS sequence in a movie. Maybe it's just me, but given that the game looks pretty close to "cinematic realism" already, why I'd want to have less interraction while pretending to be playing the game...
