you sound more rattled than realistic. the transfer market started to get silly when the bosman ruling came in and agents saw how they could cash in. since then, money has flowed out of the game and into their pockets. chelski accelerated the process; but it paid off and got them established as a winning club in the top 4, so set a template for others to follow.

you talk about players dreaming of playing for a club (i take it you mean man u) when comparing chelsea or man city; then take the piss out of a player who has signed for such a club. it's not as though man u's prop-full of players playing for nothing, is it?

the market is mad; and if fergie succeeds by winning despite it i'd be happy to see him do so, as the chelsea/city hoovering spoils the game somewhat. and it's funnier to see chelsea fail because of the blank looks and seething rage the ignorant johnny-come-latelies that can't understand why things aren't necessarily their's by right!

the market has exploded but this year its got too silly - it is what it is I suppose, I'm just more upset that a player like Benzema choose Real Madrid over United - because he 'claimed' he'd always wanted to play for them (I find that is, in the wake of Ronaldo leaving, 'the' thing to say now rather than its the 'best deal for me') - because you can bet that when the day comes that a better deal comes along both he and Ronaldo will up sticks and go somewhere else... money rules the game - and i wish the 80,000 fans in the Benerbau who turned out to see Ronaldo would understand that... the Galacticos project failed last time around - will this new lot work...?

United no doubt have some mercenaries on their books - Berbatov appears to be one, but we'll see, but over the past few years United have had many loyal servants who have committed to the club and despite many offers don't leave - Giggs for one... I'd rather we were a selling club when our players are past their best or don't make the grade that's all...

Rooney was at Everton a club he loved and supports - and as such wanted to play for all his life but left to further his career as a footballer - if he always wanted to play for Everton why leave? At the time money may have been a factor but to be at the better club and win trophies and further his England career were probably the motivators. Is Ronaldo going to further his career - probably not - he's won it all already - further his bank account yeah for sure - if he can win over the fans by saying its where I always wanted to play then good luck to him!

I just don't believe the United fans fall for such tricks they don't turn out in their thousands and welcome messiahs like they do in Spain or the North East ;) How many were at Owen's unveiling at OT? ;)

No-one ever dreamed of playing for Chelsea before they got the money and won the league 2 years in a row. Who's to say Man City wont do that? Well, they dont have a special one (even if he is an ex-Man Utd/Chelsea legend).

Real Madrid = big team with big history, and thats a good enough excuse to give when players are being interviewed. What they really mean is they still get CL football, the weather is nice, and they get big fat wages and a massive tax break.

But Matt, you really shouldnt be moaning. You've just sold some of your best players to your enemies, your club is owned by a guy who couldnt afford it and plunged your club into about a billion pounds worth of debt but despite that you won the league. Just imagine what would happen if you had a shit manager and all this happened... You'd be in the Championship with all the other teams in debt who sold their best players.

i'm no economist but in reality United are not in debt, the man who owns it is.

The club is worth say £1bn, if it was put up for sale by its owners which, no doubt it will, they will walk away with money (which was their intention) and United will have another buyer. United won't go the way of Leeds, for example, because United are arguable the biggest club in the world and can generate money and have a worth that more than covers their debts -

I own my own home, except that i don't i owe the Bank the money, its the same principle... United's owners have taken a mortgage to own the club, and in effect the value of that 'house' has risen and will be worth more to someone when they come to buy it...

Lower league clubs are all in debt somehow, but all clubs have a worth its just whether that worth is more or less than the debt owed, at United it clearly is, if one player can be sold for £80m a whole squad is worth approx the value of the debt...

Whether Glazer took out a loan against the club or against something else he's borrowed to finance the purchase of the club, but ultimately that's his burden, if he can't service it then he can go and someone else will cough up and buy the business... which sadly is what it is.
