yeah, i'm getting some also, but the collector in me won't let
me wear them......for fear of messing them up...

and you, will you wear them?

Re: collectors' corner

don't forget to check the images of the shoes that you purchase (especially on eBay) - there are definitely some fakes out there. Like, they won't have the different labels on the back of each heel. Like, "Tomato" on one and "underworld" on the other... I was only able to buy the Ian Brown ones, and for example - they've got "ian" on the back of the left shoe, and 'brown' on the back of the right

...basic rule of thumb, if they're not crazy expensive ... they're probably fake
(b/c if I remember correctly, even their original retail price was something like $150)

Re: collectors' corner

i was also a little worried my gf may have run into a faker, specially after talking to Yannick ( damn you ), but after researching, i am teh proud owner of authentic UW/ Tomato shoes.
i am in heaven...i remember when Adidas came out with all those 35th anniv shoes, and i thought, damn, theyre expenso.
i figured one day id have the $ to buy them.
i am loved...
now, wearing them out is a whole other matter.
my dream...have rick and karl sign them ( i'd consider us ' even ' ).;)
my reality...maybe wear them in the spring and summer.

seriously, how much of a demand are there for fake limited
edition running shoes?

really, i'm surprised they would even bother..
i'm sure they're somewhat rare, but why
make fakes of them?

actually - they're more of a dark green and red...
if I remember correctly (I'm not wearing them at the moment), but the shell-toe & bottom is black, and the insole (inside the shoe) is yellow w/ lyrics to an Ian Brown song written inside

- oh and there's a gold plastic-thingy at the base of the shoe lases

I don't get it either, but there's a HUGE market for fake 'collectable' shoes and clothes... I had no idea about it until I really got into UNKLE. At first I wanted to get some related shirts (Futura2000 inspired designs, etc) or Bape stuff, but I couldn't find them anywhere for less than really really really ridiculous prices... then I started finding cheap online stores / auctions

that's when I found out that there are actually 'established' businesses that do nothing but make fake/pirated/bootleg versions of clothing

and like - these are freakin' t-shirts and tennis shoes!

sometimes they're obvious fakes, like the design is off or the colors are wrong... while others are a bit more tricky to decipher

...needless to say - I never got into the whole 'collectable' t-shirt or tennis shoe "deal" as you're put into two situations

(1) you're paying waaaaaay too much $$$ for clothes that you can't really wear

[or]

(2) you pay not-too-much (but still kinda pricey) for items that are fake

...actually - I think the Ian Brown shoes might just be the most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought (including dress shoes) - and I even bought them at the Adidas store (so it was retail)

negative1 12-05-2007 05:31 PM

uw fake shoes repair for reasonable price by ....

ok, but the thing about the underworld shoes
is they are pretty unique..

wouldn't it cost a lot to reproduce the graphics,
the inks, the fabrics, etc???

that's a lot of trouble to go through, especially
for these shoes, i guess, i'll just have to check
if they're reputable dealers..

some of the ones online (and I DONT MEAN
TO OFFEND ANYONE FROM THERE)...are
from Hong Kong , etc.....so , yeah buyer beware..

not to say that fakes don't come from US/EUROPE/etc...

How can you spot the fakes? I was looking at eBay last night and found a store which had like 5 pairs of varying sizes. They were $62 starting bids. I'm at work and can't get a link but I searched for "underworld adidas". I REALLY want a pair of these but pnly if theyr'e authentic. Thanks.

This link posted earlier has some pretty detailed pics. http://www.pickyourshoes.com/casual/...underworld.htm

If they haven't got Underworld on the back tab of one shoe and Tomato on the back of the other, that's a bad sign for a start. The other thing would be the soles of the shoes which, as you can see in these pix, have a very distinct design, and also the insoles which have random lyrics on them.

If you are unsure, I would suggest emailing the store and asking for all these details to be confirmed, and ask them to confirm they are genuine. If you then purchase them and find they aren't, you can get your money back through your credit card company/paypal/whoever and return them. Sucks to have to do that, but unless you can actually look at the shoes before you buy them, there is no way to tell 100%

that's what my husband says. his opinion is that even if they are fake, if they're good enough fakes that you can't tell the difference even with all the "fake spotter" guides out there, then they're just as good as the real thing.

i've decided to ease my mental anguish this way: i'll wear them. i wasn't going to wear them but i've changed my mind. that way, if they're real i've gotten enjoyment out of them. and if they're fake who cares if they get scuffed?

holy shit. okay one of the reasons i doubted them was because they didn't look reflective at all. then suddenly tonight i was walking into the bathroom and i flipped the light on and glanced out into the bedroom and they were reflecting like a mofo. then i grabbed my camera and took two shots. sure enough, unreflective in normal light but glow-tastic with a flash.

picture

oh my god, i already left the guy feedback saying the shoes were counterfeit. someone please tell me the counterfeit ones reflect, too. because otherwise i'm going to have to go back and apologize and humbly withdraw my objection.:o

Re: collectors' corner

Hmmm, this is strange.
The laces of my pair don't have written "Underworld" all over them and are just beige.
Did you get those special laces with the shoes?

Here is a comparison of authentic and fake if you haven't seen it already:
http://www.kaskus.us/showthread.php?t=671391

I think you can see the difference most clearly when you look at that (don't know the English word...). It's felt-like on the originals whereas on the fake ones it's made of shiny and soft fabric.
It's really hard to spot any difference.

It seems I got authentic ones! :) ...just without those laces. :(

cacophony 01-05-2008 07:47 PM

Re: collectors' corner

yeah they came with the tan laces in, but had the packs of special laces with them. swapping out the tan laces for the underworld/tomato laces was the first thing i did.

i don't think the insole looks like the one identified as "fake" in that link. they aren't mottled like that. and they aren't shiny. but i'm not sure i'd use the word "felt" to describe them. hell, i don't know. in a couple of the shots they more resemble the fake ones. in a couple they more resemble the real ones. they do not have the little tab at the heel, i know that for sure. and i checked the ID tags sewn into the tongues. apparently on fakes the serial numbers are usually the same for both shoes. on mine the serial numbers are different for each shoe. i don't know that i think the lack of tab and the serial number thing are really solid arguments for real, though. that just takes counterfeiters getting one step smarter.

i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have known or cared about this issue if i hadn't read the whole discussion on previous pages about fakes. it seriously wouldn't have occurred to me to question it and i could have lived in ignorant bliss. DAMN YOU DIRTIES! YOU MADE ME PARANOID ABOUT SHOES!!!

excellent find! my seller's on the list, but he emailed me and pretty much admitted openly that they're fakes once i left him negative feedback. he offered me a refund but i doubt he seriously thought i would take him up on it. i emailed him back and said, "sure, you paypal the money back into my account first, and i'll be happy to mail them back." he's since disappeared off the face of the planet.

i don't really care either way about the sale of counterfeits, it doesn't bother my morality one bit. but at least note "knock-off" in the product description.

If you don't get satisfaction from that at the end of the investigation, then file a dispute with your credit card company (you did pay by credit card, right?).

i did indeed pay with credit card. i have a feeling that long list of names hides a fairly short list of dealers, though. i suspect that they sell sell sell and as soon as they incur negative feedback they abandon their accounts and move on to another. my seller has pulled all of his auctions since i emailed him.

it's not enough money to really be worth it to me, but i might put in a complaint if it would hassle him a little bit. ;)

Thanks. I got stung on some Ian Brown fakes which the seller charged me top dollar for. It's obviously a huge market and the lengths the counterfeiters will go to is amazing. Most people wouldn't know the difference between the fakes and the real ones
