Re: collectors' corner

Hey, its easy. You just make your own. Anyone want to buy a promo? ;)

Stephen 06-03-2006 07:59 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Has anyone ever seen an mp3 promo like this? Obviously it's like that as the 3 RiverRun's wouldn't fit onto one audio CD together. Is it feasible that UW would produce a promo featuring the first 2 RRs several months after they were originally released? Is a disc in mp3 format actually usable for any 'promo' purposes, i.e. radio airplay? If the tracks aren't split up then I seriously doubt it. Stinks of bullshit to me.

Anyone else appreciate the irony of Matt telling people not to get overexcited about the big sister preview and then watching him cough up money for this? No? Just me then?

joethelion 06-03-2006 08:42 AM

Re: collectors' corner

wait...

the promo isn't even an audio cd? It's just mp3's... then definitely seems fake

I mean, I have seen promo cd-r's (and vinyl) of internet-only releases, but they were neither mp3 sourced, nor data discs containing mp3's

now - if the promo's auction was going to end like, even two days before the end of the auction (so then - it might be possible for it to be shipped prior to it's release) then I wouldn't doubt it's legitimacy

Stephen 06-03-2006 09:00 AM

Re: collectors' corner

I agree. It's got to be a steaming pile of fraudulent shite.

The seller also has his feedback set to 'private', a setting usual reserved for scamsters and people who sell dildos and that.

stimpee 06-03-2006 09:12 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Well i did just show how easy it is to make your own so it wouldnt surprise me. However, these have been released in mp3 so an mp3 release does make sense. The auction finishing on the release date of the 3rd RR does make it all the more suspicious I do admit but you never know, it may be genuine. I'd like to see the CD.

holden 06-03-2006 09:20 AM

Re: collectors' corner

Agreed. the promo label doesn't scream "official" to me. In fact, here's what seller Charliecbury has to say about it:

"Comes in typical promo format - clear sleeve, paper insert with tracklisting on....see photo."

Seems like he's trying too hard. Like, 'see, check out the official-looking label! This is how they're done! Typical and not-at-all made-at-home in two minutes!';)

There seems like a CD is behind the label, because of the circular impression in the label, but i agree with Stimpee...let's see what's printed on the CD (other than Memorex CD-R :p )

big screen satellite 06-03-2006 09:55 AM

Re: collectors' corner

you'd need some clever info to be able to put the details on correctly...

and he's sending me a scan of the CD - said it came from the record company - so i'll wait and see...

most people who set themselves to 'private' on ebay are protecting themselves because they sell promos which clearly state 'not for resale' and they often get clobbered by the record companies who send them these items - and don't want them sold on

Stimpee, its easy to knock up a CD with this kinda info after the event, i agree, but to get the details this 'right' for what really is a two bit promo that may not even make him £5 is hardly worth it - also after june 6th - no ones gonna wanna buy this anyway as everyone will have it

unless your a stupid 'must own' fan like me, and i'm certainly willing to take the risk - but if it gets silly money then i won't - i can't see that he's gonna make or sell loads more either because its not worth it - so why make a fake???

i have plenty of official promo's from record companies that look a lot more fake than this one does - but i know for a fact are geniune promos...

i have no reason to doubt that this is genuine because its not a stupid price and he's set no stupid reserve or anything like that...

well see anyway...

Matt

Yeah, like a visit to UWlive, where all that info is listed!

your points are well taken, though, and it's no slam on you for wanting this item or the seller for offering it (if it's legitimate). it's also true that promo sleeves are often pretty lame looking. i hope it turns out to be the genuine article if you buy it. Just seems like such an odd item and sketchy timing.

Sounds like you'll see what you want to see Matt. Isn't the fact that there's no reserve more likely to suggest that it is a fake? I mean, if it was a genuine collector's item, he's not going to want to let it go for peanuts now, is he? Depends on how you look at it I guess...

Having said all that, the other items he's currently selling seem genuine enough, including a few promos with the tag 'not a pirate or a copy'.

Who knows eh?

Re: collectors' corner

I dunno - even if this goes for a tenner, it is a risk worth taking, for someone like Matt who is a collector par excellence. A tenner doesn't even buy you two double vodkas and orange in a London pub. Worth the gamble I'd say.

exactly

say it is geniune, and one of only 5 or so promos in existence (or even more)... i'd be stupid not to try and own it - and regret it later

if it turns out to be a fake, then if i haven't spent too much, i've not lost out...

For me owning the actual mp3 is nothing, unlike a lot of big fans here who just want the music in decent quality. For me its mainly about the product and as far as i can see this is a viable product to buy.

Despite this though i will still download it on Tuesday as i want to get the Misterons megamix, because if i can't own anything the next best thing is to 'own' the mp3 version.

Wouldnt the promo have the extra remix thingyon to?

froopy seal 06-04-2006 06:09 AM

You only get that if you buy the other two promos, too.

I mean, I thought Matt was underworldnumberonesuperfan.
Doesn't he (or for that matter don't we ) have the means to contact
a certain memeber or two or three of dirty or tomato and find out?
Maybe a yannick, a scott or an aNt? And then if this IS a fake, have
the seller rooted out and flogged?

just a thought.

The real question is: Does the RR promo have Big Sister at some bit rate higher than 160 kbps?

For the hardcore collectors (got to be REAL hardcore to want this I think) there is yet another bootleg remix of Born Slippy. It's called born slippy (spacecab remix) and is out on a 1-sided 12".

The fact that it's encoded at 160kbps makes me think  , but if you say it's genuine I believe you. Could you post a pic of the cd?
To mmm skyscraper; the Stiti shirt is for sale on ebay uk.

Is it 160 Kbps, and also 48.0 KHz? Cause then it would look like the download for the first day, before it was corrected. I would like to see a pic too...

Ooh, here's another good question too. What's the creation date and time on each MP3 file?

big screen satellite 06-08-2006 02:24 PM

Re: collectors' corner

all of the files were created on 15/05/06

so well, whatever i think its genuine...

i'm glad i have it - its a unique promo that basically no one else has

if loads turn up on ebay then well, who cares it only cost me £9...but it doubt they will...

how easy is it to print info on CD without special equiptment...and why go to that effort for less than £10, if it was a blank CD_R then maybe, but its a plain disc with standard UW type printing on it...

i might post a pic later...

Is there anybody who bought this already? There's Two Months Off on it. I wonder if it is a special mix or something worth buying.

If it's screen-printed, it's certainly not the trouble to do it for 9 pounds (I actually worked in a cd production facilty a few days ago, retouching screens before printing :) ).

You might also want to check out the inner ring of the cd (near the hole) to see if you can find a label nummer or information from the cd factory.

I guess it is evidence of the CD's authenticity. That inner-ring info should be quite hard to reproduce without industrial equipment.

well on the inner it says:

1JE11545152707

IFPI ED62

If that means its from an official source, i would not know either way - although these kinda numbers don't appear on standard blank cd-r's as far as i know...

There was another Riverrun promo cd on eBay, think it fetched $10 or something, did not post it here when it was active to prevent a bidding war.

It's probably posted somewhere on this board, but how are the 3 RRs fitted on one cd?
