Because Underworld is a business that needs to sell music and related stuff. They ain't going to do that by underwhelming their audience. It's just basic common sense, not rocket science kids.

I don't know whether this was suggested before (got a bit lost in all the posts) but what about the following idea:

This "first part" of the 25 minutes "piece of music" isn't connected with the remaining 20 minutes in a way that it's ONE song/mix. Maybe it's a 25 minute mixture of a couple of new tracks/bits of tracks/projects/etc.?

Just an idea ...

you know... just listening to this again

Tong doesn't even know what the heck this track is! I have the feeling they just gave it to him, with no info.

There's no way this is the lead single, as it's over 20min... unless they finally listened to the fans who were bitching for EP's again

and about Kittens... that track wasn't characteristic at all of the rest of the album

I bet that UW release an EP, a soundtrack, and (maybe) also an album
I am really having doubts as to whether or not the sndtrk & the album are different things

-> this 'doubt' is pretty much sourced from what happened with Bowie's album 'hours...'. Originally there was a 'new album coming' then a soundtrack, then reports came that the album was going to be a x2cd release (the proper album + soundtrack), then the album itself was the soundtrack with only slightly cosmetic differences between tracks...

sure it turned out there was more music within the game, but they were all snippets / mood music you know?

(the soundtrack was for Omikron: The Nomad Soul)

rick on Dirty Radio paraphrased: 'yes, we are doing an EP'

so simon, no, i dont think this is a single worthy track. it wont wow non-Underworld fans at first listen the same way KOS, PG and BS would. but in no way did Tong say, "and back with their new single, here's Underworld" he just said that it was a portion of a 25minute track. I imagine we'll hear the single when Karl is in the studio. This is still White Label, consider it what you want. just let's not jump to conclusions and look at this as 'what underworld is selling' because why would they sell 1/5 a product? this isnt rocket science.

Keep in mind that Underworld has been a very successful business throughout the last decade and are now in the position to do things more independently than ever before. The traditional notion of how you make and market music within the system may not necessarily apply for all things Underworld moving forward.

Is that an official statement?

The traditional notion produced good, non-self-indulgent music...

[EDIT]Apart from most of AHDO. ;)

All they need to do is to make sure anything new doesnt leak on the net about two months earyl like AHDO did. Should just stick it on iTunes for all to download, or failing that, stick it on tape release only to piss people off.
