Well, for one, the band They Might Be Giants not only has exclusive new tracks every month, but they also do bi-weekly podcasts that showcase new material, sell all their live shows online for $10 each, as well as play dozens of free shows a year...

Yes, but TMBG suck.

if this is the thread for complaining,
why are you all adding to it?

don't you think that's uncalled for?

34958hq439-qjw9v5jq298v5j was just
pointing out that other groups do give
their listeners lots of perks...not just underworld..

i like other groups like 'big country', 'simple minds' etc,
and they also do a lot of cool things for their fans,
you might not like their music....but for the fans
it only makes them support their favorites more..

I'm sure there are some TMBG fans who think that Underworld sucks.

TMBG is an excellent counter-example to the usual lame attitude that artists (or at least record labels) have toward the 'net. They're hardly struggling artists, given that they've been around since 1982 and have won a grammy for their work, and they put out what was probably the first online release of a full-length album by in any established artist (in 1999!). They also started one of the first artist-owned online music stores, where I think they sell almost their entire back catalog in MP3 form at very reasonable prices, with some of it offered in FLAC as well.

Whether or not you like their music, it's worth noting and respecting everything they've done to try to push toward a more artist-owned model for promoting and selling music.
