View Full Version : A NEW new toy on Darktrain.jp!

Ok everyone, here is an "alpha" version of the DTM2! I put it in a new
thread because, it`s not the old "new toy on darktrain.jp", but rather a new
one! WARNING: It is not finished, and it`s far from perfect, but at least
you all can play with it and see what I`m trying to do.

http://www.darktrain.jp/dtm_2.php

A few notes about it:

- To select new sounds, click on the arrow next to each track loop display.
A pop up window will appear where you can select new loops from a tree
list. There are only a couple (besides the darktrain loops) right now, but I
will add more over time.

- Depending on your system/Flash Player version, the loops may trigger out
of sync, or have a small gap between them. This has to do with the fact
that I am using a "timer" object in Flash to trigger them and it is notoriously
untimely. If the Flash player is busy processing other tasks, then the timer
function gets put on hold for a bit, which causes the glitches/gaps. It`s just
the nature of it! Flash sucks at handling audio and Actionscript 3 hasn`t
helped much in this area! Also, the way I have designed the mixer to load
audio in real time has forced me to use a design pattern that can cause
looping problems. I have tried almost everything, but there are still a
couple more tricks I can try to resolve this problem! On my PC it worked
horribly...on my newer Mac, it was near perfect!

- The mute buttons work fine, and the solo buttons work if used one at a
time, but if you use them in tandem it creates all sorts of havoc! I still need
to finish coding the logic behind them!

- The beat indicator leds on the bottom often don`t trigger in sync with the
music. This has to do with the same timer object problem described above.

Please play around with it and let me know what you think. As always, I
appreciate any feedback, bad or good. This is a work in progress, so I will
be making changes to it over the coming weeks.

I hope (ok...pray) it works for you :)

Have fun being Rick:

This is outstanding! Also doing my Rick impression, though it's more of a drunk Daz as i figure out the sounds.
Very fun toy!

and what would Pearl´s Girl be without LP A, Jung Loop and Pad

and Born Slippy without Barpy Loop, Piano and Cord... hmmmm....

I really had to use the MSTR sloooowly down to stop listening :)

Wonderful toy! God Bless the Angels who made it!
I was playing a lot and had very fun. Thank you! :)

There's a "Loop B" too (he, he), but I still have to arrange it from
the iDrum samples ;)

Thanks a lot for the kind feedback! I'll be adding more functionality
to this over time. Other songs in the works too!

Good job mate, I like it! Will you be going to one of the Tokyo shows? Which one? Haven't got my tickets yet but will probably try for the Friday one.

Tokyorai,

Sorry to respond to you so late! I had just gotten back from the U.S. and was swamped
with work, so I didn`t check the forums for a couple of weeks. Your post slipped through
my radar. I just happened to go into this thread today to copy something I had written
before and saw it! My sincere apologies!

Haven't got my tickets yet but will probably try for the Friday one.

I will be going to all 3 Tokyo shows! Did you get tickets for any of the dates? We are
planning a small "dirty" meet on Sunday before the AgeHa show. It will be at a (as yet
undecided) restaurant in Toyosu on the Yurakucho Line. We decided to have it there
because there are no restaurants in Shin Kiba. Are you going to the AgeHa show? Would
love for you to come!

Lucky you!!! :)

Please please Matt, could you add the Scribble sound and elements to the toy-box?
It would be so nice to hear that beautiful glimmering water sound as it is. I really love it.

There's a new version (link later in the thread). I've updated the first post with the new link now though.

Now that the Japan/American tour has finished, and things have settled down a bit, I`m starting to
work on the DTM again! I just finished a few cosmetic changes to the interface (new fader buttons,
a proper On/Off switch for the filter, and a BPM display). A lot more stuff to do with this!

I was also working on "Two Months Off" right before the Japan tour, but got sidetracked. Will try
to get this up soon! There`s more where that came from too!

Please please Matt, could you add the Scribble sound and elements to the toy-box

This would be a great track to add! I need to look into it and see if I can get all the isolated samples!
