how many times have you gusy sen the boys live?? (and rte the form best to worst)....
1. Coachella 1999: nest show of my life (Bruce lee into moaner)
2. Le Bateclan, Paris 2002: one of the few 2002 shows where they mixed songs ogather and improvised like the good ol days
3. Electraglide Tokyo 2005: One of the first shows with Darren Price....sick 3 hour set
4. Coachella 2003: I was in the very front row os a 15,000 person tent!
5. Bizarre festival, Germany 2000: One of their first shows back immediatly after Darren Emerson had just left the band....Karl played the bass guitar for Dirty Epic!!!
6. Chicago 2002: the show was really nothing special...the technical difficulties were honestly the most creative thy were for the entire show....although they did play the originl dark and long so they got points or that....
was anyone else at any of these shows?? gree? disagree???
discuss!
2 times... Hamburg and Berlin 2008. Both shows were awesome, especially since the setlists were so different.
Berlin was very special though, we got brilliant versions of Juanita, Darc, Banstyle and Confusion the Waitress. I'm very sad that there are no recordings of those two gigs.

Im sure this got asked years ago and it was one of the first times when we got direct answers to thinks from R&K as a message on UWlive said "I've seen Underworld the most times".
Que Club Birmingham 1996That was an awesome gig as the Que Club is such a great venue - we used to go to loads of Atomic Jams there.
My other favourite UW gig would be the year before on the Friday night of the Phoenix festival in the dance tent - something like a 3 hr set and it was fantastic. They also then played the main stage on the Sunday afternoon in the drizzle and that was the only time we left the dance tent during the whole festival...

3x Hammerstein, NYC
1x Central Park, NYC
1x Field Day Festival, NJ
1x All Points West Festival, NJ
1x Electric Factory, Philly
2x Boston
1x Washington DC
1x Atlanta
0x Roundhouse, London :(
Of that, my two faves are Atlanta 2008 and Philly 1998(?). Least favorite was probably at All Points West simply because it was still bright and sunny when UW went on. Not exactly the best environment to watch them play.

Creamfields uk 2002
Brixton Academy Nov 2002
Global Gathering uk 2005
Knebworth 2007
London Roundhouse Oct 2007 (x2)
London Roundhouse Feb 2008 (x2)
Brixton Academy Nov 2008
Brixton 2002 was a generously long set, with an excellent "Twist" - Karl freestyling on the guitar; creamfields obviously special cos first time - I recall mouthing the lyrics to Born Slippy to the random guy next to me, who was doing the same (the first time I connected with a fellow u/w fan!); Knebworth - a bit muddy but a gr8 night and the first time I met up with you very fine fellow dirts; Roundhouse in Feb stands out - the fabulous warm-up music by a North/West African musician(?) (does anyone know who?), Yoav the support, who simply blew me away, and finally u/w who hyped the crowd on the 2nd night during Born Slippy to such a degree that I felt as if I was a vampire on a million drugs!!

Seen them only twice myself...
2007 in Tri-pod in Dublin - The place used to be called the Red Box because it was made out of red brick and heated up like and absolute furnace, and it still does. Amazing sound now that they have done it up.. came out of that gig as if i had just come out of a shower....absolutely lost my mind when they finished the main set with moaner and needed the encore of Jumbo just to bring things to a new euphoric level..never forget it. My first time seeing to them after years of listening...now i cant stop!
2008 at Electric Picnic - Now i know what everyone will say about festival sets, and granted it was a little shorter than i would have liked but i cannot express the absolute, unrestricted and pure love that was created in that tent. Right at the height of the festival on the Saturday night - they were perfect beyond belief and the crowd lost their minds in the music from the second it started... the whole festival seemed to mirror the performance and vice versa...ive been to three Electric Picnics and the buzz keeps getting better, hope they are there next year!
My vid of the end of EP performance... quite good quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgVlSJo8dUE
I had a ticket to the Belfast show of 2007 but they cancelled it...i hope they return soon!
Edit: Perhaps as an extra question maybe we could describe our first UW gigs and how it was to seeing them now?

IIRC, the boys were very effusive about the EP performance too. I think it was one of their favorite shows of the year.

1. 1998 at the Mayan in Los Angeles.
2. 1999 at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles.
3. 2002 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.
4. 2003 at Coachella Festival in Palm Springs.
5. 2007 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
6. 2007 at Central Park in New York.
7. 2008 at All Points West festival in New Jersey.
I think that's quite a lot for a USA-based fan! Thre 1998 show at the Mayan was my favorite. I had no idea what to expect, not having heard any live recordings at that point. Changed my life.

1: 2000 at the Lowlands Festival. First gig I ever saw and it was quite amazing. Remember that I danced my f**kin' socks off;
2: 2005 at the 013 in Tilburg. Great to see one of the 3-hours sessions they did at that time. The version of Moaner they played was absolutely stunning;
3: 2005 at the HMH in Amsterdam. The one where they started with Darc/Parc, remember how I directly wanted to have that track in my collection to play it over and over again;
4: 2008 at the HMH in Amsterdam. First gig where I got my girldfriend with me, she absolutely loved it;
5: 2008 at the Lowlands Festival;
6: 2002 at the Lowlands Festival;
7: 2008 at the Rock Werchter Festival. Less favorite one, but that had more to do with the annoying kids who had more attention for the enormous balloons then for the music.

1. - :D - 1999 at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles - It`s all a dream now!
2. - :D - 1999 at Coachella Festival in Palm Springs - Awesome show as well!
3. - :) - 2002 at the Warfield in San Francisco - Karl had a cold, so it was very instrumental, which I tend to prefer. Something was different without Darren!
4. - :) - 2002 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles - The day after the Warfield gig, but they were in much higher spirits. Fun gig!
5. - :) - 2003 at Coachella Festival in Palm Springs - Excellent opening (hard Cowgirl beats / into Rez), long improvs...nice!
6. - :D - 2005 at Electraglide in Tokyo - 3 hours :) The 1st hour was a beautiful (nostalgic) flashback! The rest of the show was great as well!
7. - :( - 2007 at Oblivion Ball in Tokyo - Good, but very predictable - especially since they played nearly the exact same set as the night before!
8. - :) - 2008 at Fuji Rock in Naeba - A nice "warm"/fun show! Let loose a bit more compared with the Oblivion Ball shows!
Without a doubt, the best were the first 2 shows!
I was already introduced/listening to the first 3 albums when I went to the Santa Monica show,
but nothing could have prepared me for it. Absolutely mind blowing!!!
Let`s just say that it forever changed my perspective on live music!
Electraglide Tokyo 2005 was a close 2nd!

4 times so far:
1. 2007 Hollywood Bowl - such a great venue, amazing seats (courtesy of joethelion), first time hearing glam bucket, and the most fresh in my memory, barely beating out...
2. 1998 Chicago HOB - first time seeing them, got to meet some dirtylisters prior to the show, nice intimate venue with long improvy versions of BF songs I hadn't heard yet. Plus Dirty Guitar.
3. 1999 Chicago Riveria - BF had been released and it was crowded as hell, and I was wearing a backpack full of merch. Apart from Bruce Lee I don't remember any track really standing out. Got to meet R&K after the show!
4. 2002 LA Wiltern - I'd just moved to town and didn't even know about the gig until the day prior so I had to go by myself which is always lame. My spot on the floor wasn't so great and I was too broke to afford merch. Green laser was awesome and they played Dirty Epic.

god i can't remember the exact number without looking at my ticket stubs (old age affects the memory) but first gig was in 93 or 94 in Manchester (Megadog!) and most recent was at the Brighton City festival last year... there must be 15-20 gigs there somewhere at least, several festival dates... plenty in London...
best gigs must be the comeback gig after Emerson left (it was the 10 years celebration of JBO gig) and also the Summerset house date - a great venue, and also Cocoon - was great...
oh and perhaps the best event actually must be Ally Pally NYE party (not only did UW play but so did New Order, Sasha & the Chems.... awesome!!!)
once or twenty times... UW are always entertaining
glad to have seen them over the course of 15 years how they have changed....

2007 Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, USA (http://uwlive.rowla.com/gigs/view/285)
the 1999 show was hands-down my favorite. i've never experienced a moment like when they dropped 'cowgirl' at the end of that set :D

you know what? i can't remember much either.it was 92/93 most likely 93.
in the early days i saw them play at the drum club @ the soundshaft (the small club ajoining heaven,charing cross),the ministry of sound(when they played unseen in the dj booth) and at RAW at the ymca tottenham court rd.
one of the best gigs ever was their first visit to the arches in glasgow for slam.i remember it well 'cause i meet a load of people who'd come over from germany to see them after hearing sven vath spin their tunes at the omen.
all seems a life time away now.......i suppose it is !

I've mamaged to see the boys three times. I have traveled over 2300 miles in those three trips(2 were driving NC->IL, and TX->CO). from best to not best (since there is no such thing as a bad UW show):
1. Denver, CO (9/11/07) greatest show of my life!
2. Atlanta, GA (3/08) My dad's 1st and only (so far!!!!) UW show!)
3. Chicago, IL (11/99)
I would go to a million more if they didn't hate the US so much (LOL)

1. T in the Park, 30th July 2003
2. Global Gathering, July 29th[?] 2005
3. London Roundhouse, October 17th 2007
4. London Roundhouse, February 29th 2008
Each time i've seen UW, they have improved. At T, they were a duo and didn't have that sort of flowing style that they have now. At Global they had an awful PA system but tracks like You Do Scribble made up for it. Really good gig indeed.
Getting to see them in a gig style and not a festival was finally achieved when I saw them in London the first time. Again, a good vibe but it was at the time when a lot of people were slagging them off for being a bit to stop and starty with their performance.
The fourth time was nothing short of amazingness. Starting with Confusion The Waitress and playing other rare gems such as Autotrader/Twist/Juanita/You Do Scribble really made for one of the best live performances i've seen/heard of them. Dropping in lyrics from River of Base and Stagger also made it amazingly good. I'm happy I have it on CD to go over and consantly do on long journeys. Cowgirl was full of energy and the buzz was amazing. I think this was the extra Roundhouse date after the October 19th show was canceled due to Rick being a bit sick and icky.
My next aim is to see Underworld in Newcastle. They can come to me! If they want to play my back garden, its free for them to do so. I'm sure the neighbours won't mind.
Haha, was that the last one they played when more emphasis was on recreating a ropey beach? Soundsystem was terrible like.
I was there too with Big screen and Ally.....got right on the barrier and the sound was still poor. i remember talking to mylo and shaun ryder at the signing tent - the mondays played that night and weren't too bad. fiished the night avin it to sasha in the big dance tent then spending half an hour after leaving trying to find our car:o
seen them at V98, V2000 or 2001, V2003 (or 4 or 5- can't remember), Wolves civic hall, Roundhouse twice, brixton acadamy, Rock city nottingham, global, Birmingham acadamy, er did they play homelands ever? i'm sure i saw them there around 2000 or 2001......memory of that time is a bit hazy:o or might even have been 1999
best one? V98 or rock city or civic..........
- 4/29/99 - The Warfield, SF -- I had recently moved to SF (3/99), I was living in Chapel Hill, NC and had been a fan for a few years. When I moved to SF I said there are three bands I need to see before I die -- Underworld, Orbital, and The Egg. I saw UW within two months of moving. Still haven't seen The Egg, will have to travel to England to do so. Orbital followed a few months later -- Community Service Tour (MoN), once followed ("The Altogether", also at the Warfield)
- 10/8/99 - Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, SF - w. the Chem Bros and DJ Shadow. flew the next morning to...
- 10/9/99 - Coachella, Palm Springs area, CA (first ever Coachalla). I agree with Disco Jake, encore of Bruce Lee into Moaner was spectacular
(above two were the last two shows with Darren Emerson)
- 10/20/02 - The Warfield, SF
- 4/27/03 - Coachella - met Scott Warner and a few other dirties earlier in the day
- 9/6/08 - The Warfield, SF - I brought 12 people to see this show with me, virtually all were newbies! And now converts!
- 9/7/08 - The Warfield, SF
hoping there's many more!

i was there as well, but did a bad job of getting hold of mattelite and ally! it was almost as though they'd forgotten bass amps :confused: started watching sasha later on; but the fact that he seemed to be playing his (rubbish) set whilst hiding underneath the bench with his cd player detracted even further, so we stopped... ...not a stunning festival; most memorable thing was the enormous queue to get in :rolleyes:
beyond that:
brixton academy, forum, 3 glastonburys, jbo anniversary gig, m.e.n. arena, global gathering, roundhouse
Looks like we`ve been to a few of the same shows/tours!

You are correct (and I'm getting old, ten years ago, geez!). I think there was a pretty well-known DJ playing between sets, but I forget who it was.
I went ape-shit when I finally heard "The Box" live (my fav Orbital track).
