What's the hype around this? Is it any good?

the hype was huge for this and it's... good. it's like a harder offshoot of panda's 'person pitch', which i didnt like much. but i do like this. not as much as others, i think straw jam was more abrasive and weird and fun.

i really love 4 songs (flowers, my girls, summertime clothes, brothersport), like about 2 (guys eyes, taste), and just get really bored by the rest.
i will say that the louder it is the better. in fact this album is no fun on low volume.

It's possibly their most accessible album and there definitely seems to be more of a Noah 'Panda Bear' Lennox influence on this one as it definitely has more in common with Person Pitch than with Strawberry Jam (and Person Pitch is one of my favourite records of the last few years.

It's also already got 'Album of The Year' at Pitchfork sewn up as they've given it their highest score in 5 years (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/148230-animal-collective-merriweather-post-pavilion)

For as much as one is willing to trust the hit-or-miss reviews on Pitchfork.:p
ill wait till i see the reviews on an aggregator like
http://www.metacritic.com/music/

Nonetheless, from what i've heard in the past from Animal Collective, they certainly are unique and harmonically gifted. Plus, i like that one of 'em goes by "Geologist". Geologists just don't get enough love in music.:p

it's dreadful. but that's really just me. i can't listen to stuff like this anymore, those annoying overlapping vocals, the pompous arrangements and the muddy distortion. it makes me want to stick a fork in my eyes (or ears, for that matter).

very much enjoying it - like electronic beach boys and x.t.c. and those who say it's not for playing quietly - yer not wrong at all - improves massively with volume when it takes over your whole headspace; very nice indeed!

'my girls' and 'bluish' are tops for me so far...

beach boys and xtc ......yes.....i'm not enjoying it tho.washes over me with nothing grabbing my attention.the bits of sub bass are generally annoying.

pretty confident that more than a month onwards, i've learned to like it as it is as being half amazing, half not.
but these days i'm pretty much ignoring it. listened to it yesterday and skipped around and then went elsewhere.

didnt see that one coming for an AC album.
