I remember a long long time ago, there was a man who joined the forums and made electronic music. He posted a link to his website in his "welcome" thread. One could listen to all of his music on his website, I think it was even free for download.
Well, the posts in reply to his website went from nice, charming replies complimenting his music, to flat out insulting him for making electronic music. Some members tried defending his music, and he tried defending his own. But in the end he simply just said.
"i am sorry. i make terrible music. good bye."
something to that effect.
do any of you remember?
Wasn't that DJ Entropy or something?

it wasn't dj entropy - his site was linked thanks to somebody finding his awful 'born slippy' remix, and then his somewhat ridiculous political views drew attention; but he wasn't a dirt.
i think i know who you're talking about, caprice; but can't remember his name - he did some nice chill-out stuff from what i remember of his site...

was this the "free electronic music!!!!" thread from a while back where he got super insulted about some initial constructive criticism?I will try to add "super insulted about some initial constructive criticism" to my vocabulary, in order to stifle any negative response to criticism I offer, so as to stigmatise the criticised as being hypersensitive.

I was going to say that, but at the time I was high and didn't want to assume I wasn't the only one tripping up on that sentence.

Well I understood it. But I am a lawyuh... and so is Froops. Part of our job description is just reading reams and reams of stuff with really long sentences and translating them into English for cash. :D :D

can you say that again but slower?I was/am not sure the sentence made/makes sense, but then I was a little numb whilst writing it.
However, I will not - nay, must not - reword it since, as BB pointed out so splendidly, that might indeed be counterproductive, profession-wise. ;)

I would submit that it would, indeed, be otiose at this juncture. :p

I remember that guy. Yeah, not a lot of fun, especially if you disagreed with how "amazing" were his tracks.

that's nothing - you should try disagreeing with his politics

do any of you remember? Was it a guy who recorded under "Nomad"? I remember him saying something like his stuff was "electronic music like you've never heard", and people jumped on him - I mean "constructively criticized" him ;) - about how it wasn't anything unique. Can't find his website though...
that's nothing - you should try disagreeing with his politics :eek:I think I must have blocked this guy out of my brain.

Okay, so here's a thread that references the classic "Free electronic music!" thread:
http://www.darktrain.org/dirty/forums/showthread.php?t=2311&highlight=free+music
Seems to have been ~2004, old edition of dirty...
Maybe it's cached somewhere, but i can't see it.
Anyway, Caprice - i don't remember who you're referring to, but there have been a lot of interesting artists that posted a few times here, then vanished. I was particularly keen on music by folks called Esem, Emmet, and Milieu. Milieu's a super-prolific chap, and a nice guy i still keep up with. There are certainly others who have debuted their "frrrreeeware" but not stuck around. As i'm now pumping a netlabel and searching them for most of the music i listen to these days, i can see how folks like to advertise and RSS feed-galore in the hopes of generating a li'l buzz, but they might not be suited to a particular site/blog.
