The Amorphous Androgynous - A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in Your Mind Vol. 1 - Cosmic Space Music (2008)
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ________________

A MONSTROUS BUBBLE started life as a (NOW ) legendary one off radio broadcast previewing a radical new 'psychedelic vision' by FSOL in 1996-psychedelia reinterpreted in a crazy collage of everything goes as long asit BLOWS in the juxtaPOSE ! Thus Bill Hicks and Bukowski spat out alongside the Beatles and the Trip , Italian Porn and the Chemical Brothers crashed in with a breakbeat or two underpinning a raga ride on a rickshaw ride somewhere in Notting Hill. This startling DJ broadcast led to the FSOL flipping into their alter ego AMORPHOUS ANDROGYNOUS without warning and producing the albums the ISNESS (2000 ) and then ALICE IN
ULTRALAND (2005) on the legendary Pink Floyd/ELO label HARVEST and countless further Monstrous Bubble broadcasts on stations such as BBC1 , BBC 6 and XFM over the ensuing decade .

These broadcasts filtered a new PSYCHEDELIA that they had glimpsed and which was stirring in the shadows. Now ten years later and psychedelic has become the buzz word for every band and every dj/individual/designer wishing to espouse a new liberated more experimental approach to either living/designing or simply making a more colorful music. Beards and long hair and guitar solos and coyote primal vocalising channeling the gods of all persuasions is more than ever likely to happen and we could very well be on the verge of that PARADIGM that the original broadcast foresaw and presaged. Every advertising agent is searching to sell liberation to us-our suspicion of marketing and technology has led to a new revolution and so
in an attempt to sell us a rebalance toward simplicity and innocence and freedom and health and sustainable ecological balance in gaia gurus ponder on the design of cars and colours swirl in psychedelic reverie and abandon in needless companionship for every conceivable product. Stomach yoghurt bacteria are activated by yoga assannas and mobile phones keep us connected while we migrate from the city in our horse drawn carriages. The big brother eyeball sensing the turning tide even camouflages itself in the new technicolour dreamcoat.

Yeah I got this a few weeks ago and was taken quite by surprised at how good it actually is. It's mixed together really well and the tracklist is great. Definitely one of my surprise favorites of 08.

You can order it through fsoldigital.com like their other releases.

Noel Gallagher's been so astounded by it ("nothing has seemed the same since") he's got them to do a 23 minute 5-part Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble mix of the next Oasis album, and Gaz is going to be DJing their Wembley show afterparty.

Good mix CD, anyway, although I'll be honest I'm looking forward for volume 2 more, which should be mixed by FSOL (as opposed to AA).

that's crazy...

so wait - they're going to do a mix of the NEXT Oasis album? As in, there's ANOTHER one coming up? or - do you mean, he's going to do a mix of the one that just recently came out?

and also - why chop up a mix that's only 23 minutes into five parts?

I've ordered this. Looking forward to it :)
Haven't really listened to anything by FSOL/AA after Dead Cities.

Yeah, sorry, next Oasis single. Falling Down. The MPB mix is going to be on a 12" of its own and as part of the download bundle. It's still one track, but has five movements in it or whatever (a la Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream Of Love).

Everyone knows they're performing as FSOL (not Amorphous) as BLOC festival next month, don't they? Quite likely to hear some of the new album.

I have listened to this. Once. and that was enough.

Sorry, but its just... some old shit.

If this wasnt packaged as an FSOL/AA package you wouldnt be touching this.

I actually quite like it ...

although - I will say that it's way too fucking long. Like, there clearly are 'segments' of the song, where it goes from:

straight 'remix' to
FSOL/AA esque 'interpretation to
like FSOL/AA song-in-of-itself

and would have made much more sense if it was separated into tracks

I mean - it's not like "Thing in a Book" where it's one solid piece of music

I'm afraid i have to agree. I was kinda dissapointed with it. Certainly there a bunch of good music on there but 2cd's full of mostly 60's psychedelica was a bit much. Would have been better if they had kept it to one disc and did something a bit more special with it, production/remix-wise maybe...

I like it overall. I definitely agree that it could be trimmed down to be a shorter, tighter collection, but man is there some beautiful stuff on there. And if anyone does want a shorter version, check out the fsol online shop (http://www.futuresoundoflondon.com/). They have a bunch of shorter mixes you can buy from live shows they've done. Just click on "The Pod Room", and scroll down to "A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Transmissions"

Absolutely. Rediscovered it because of this album and the song's soundtracked the start of my summer so far :) Donovan's fae Maryhill too, or as my mate Lauren who lives there calls it - Scaryhill :D

a bit off topic, but still kinda related (as it's about a Donovan track)

so... on the vinyl release "Donovan's Greatest Hits" the version of "Colors" has backing vocals on it - and it's ONLY on the vinyl version of the album, for some reason a different version was used for the cd/download release that came out later

the version with the backing vocals was used in the film "The Rules of Attraction", but on the actual soundtrack release - it's the one without backing vocals

any chance someone has a vinyl rip of "Donovan's Greatest Hits"? I REALLY want "Colors" (and actually there's a second vinyl-only track, I forget which one it is... but I think it's "Catch the Wind")

a friend of mine had it - and was going to let me rip it (for both of us) but for no apparent reason, my computer will only record in the left channel (and I'm out of town for a few days, and won't be able to fix it)
