And people said Obama would be bad for the economy!

Stewart Wallin, owner of Get Some Guns in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray, Utah, said he sold nine assault weapons the day after Obama was elected. That same day, the gun store Cheaper Than Dirt! in Fort Worth, Texas, sold $101,000 worth of merchandise, shattering its single-day sales record, store owner DeWayne Irwin said.
Outstanding marketing!

let them spend their money. it makes them feel empowered but we all know they're just chickenshits who will talk big on the shooting range and then stash the guns in their lockers when they get home. so it goes.

from what i hear, gun lovers have been fearful of Obama's right to bear arms stance. some of them think that Obama will put a heavy tax on gun sales etc (and this is an exact quote: "making ammo hard to obtain").
they're just loading up on supplies before The End Of Days.:D

Riiight. I think the nation might be a little more diverse than your self-serving generalizations would lead you to believe.
Why shouldn't taking precautions to preserve you, your kin, and property be empowering? Would you rather the government keep you safe (from itself)?
Just because the 2nd amendment may stand outside your personal prejudices about society, government, and violence... limited foresight does not render any part of the constitution inappropriate or those who exercise their rights "chickenshits".

Waco notwithstanding, I think that is a bit of a scary reason why one would want to keep a gun - the implication here is that the government are gonna getcha, unless I am reading this completely wrong. I thought all that stuff disappeared after 9/11 and now it was muslims who were gonna getcha (if one was of that paranoid frame of mind in the first place, that is.)
Maybe the reason why people are buying more guns is because the right-wing gun-nut branch of the Repubs has bought into the claptrap about Obama being The Beast and his election being the end of civilisation as they know it? Or maybe a more feral, purely racist view that they won't be safe with an African-American in power?
I really don't want to wade into the guns vs no guns debate because I can see it turning into 25 pages of increasingly polarised views. But I am not surprised that this has happened, given the complete rubbish that was being spouted by some real wingnuts over there about what an Obama win would mean .

our favourite resident marine's take on this issue is pretty enlightening. if you're against the government, then you and your 'militia' will have to get past the likes of sarcasmo and co - and they are way better-equipped to wipe you away than you are to have a go at them. if, however, the marines were of the opinion not be alongside the government; then you wouldn't be needing your guns anyway. either way; it's a nonsense excuse that's out of date.
there's also the fact that guns invariably end up killing people who aren't the scary government or even burglars - i mean; an 8 year-old killed his father today - that's fucking barking mad! your society ends up with stories like the young kid whose father took him to a shooting fair - he ended up taking his own head off and the father was 'surprised'. stupid, maybe; but if people who give uzi's to young children are 'surprised' when they end up dead, then maybe your society should be asking itself some questions?
and if you think that calling gun-owners out for their approach to shooting off their weapons as opposed to their mouths; just look at any forum where they gather...

lollerskates. are we discussing the second amendment in general or the timing with which these sales have shot up? because i think you've made some pretty big assumptions here in your barely-on-topic response.

NEW: YOU CAN KEEP "THE CHANGE"
PALIN * 2012 Bumper Stickers!
I'll keep my guns, freedom, and money. You can keep "the change!" Vote Sarah Palin for President in 2012! The Liberal Media wants you to think that Sarah Palin held John McCain back. We all know that John McCain's campaign surged ahead because of Sarah. She's a rising star in the GOP and could easily defeat Barack Obama in 2012! The Palin Revolution is about to break out and you can be on the cutting edge with this clever new bumper sticker! This 2-PACK includes one for each of your vehicles, whether it's your gas guzzlin' SUV, pick-up truck, or "hockey mom" minivan!
Good freakin' grief. Guns actually come first? I guess the article that started this thread is pretty good evidence.

Although some of the blame for this mentality has to clearly fall on Democrats as well. I NEVER approved of the "not my President" bumper stickers and vocal sentiments we were hearing from Dems when Bush was elected, and this is a good example of why. If Bush didn't have to be accepted as the legitimate President by liberals, then why should conservatives be expected to suddenly be gracious and accepting about an Obama win?

There hasn't been this much liberal ass-slapping per capita since November 4th!It's not just "liberal ass-slapping". There are those of us here with centerist and even conservative leanings who are equally happy about the idea of having a President who aims to represent all Americans, not just those who share his political ideologies. That's the whole driving idea behind Obama's platform. You're looking at a bunch of American and international ass-slapping, not just liberal ass-slapping.
EDIT: Does Libertarian = conservative? By today's popular definition, I'm not too sure.Yeah, they're not necessarily "conservative", but on a practical level, the Libertarian party usually syphons votes away from Republicans, just as the Green party syphons votes away from Democrats.

Bush was appointed the first time, not elected. I truly believe both 2000 and 2004 were bogus elections.
Bush was appointed the first time, not elected. I truly believe both 2000 and 2004 were bogus elections.Thank you for illustrating the point.
Now why can't Republicans say that Obama "bought" the election? Or that the DNC handed him the nomination that should have gone to Hillary when they made their ruling on how many delegates from Michigan and Florida should be seated? Or whatever else they might be able to dream up?
Because if we're being honest, Bush was elected both times, like it or not. The refusal to recognize him as a legitimate President was a mistake.

there's a google search result page for "Obama Bought Election". notice the tons of results linking to articles and blog posts saying he bought the election? it's happening already and started before he was actually elected.Of course it's happening. And I believe it's largely thanks to the "not my President" stance taken by many vocal opponents of Bush. The saying "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is based on basic human nature, and it applies directly to this situation.
Luckily though, it appears that the vast majority of Americans are on board with Obama (http://www.winknews.com/news/campaign/34292444.html) now that we're post-election.

Hey, I like big steaks and big trucks. Some of those things are pretty sweet.
And I totally agree with fucking the environment. I work in the environmental consulting business. Part of my job is to drive hundreds of miles in big trucks, run gas generators all day to fill up a few vials of water from a well, and then ship the samples across the country in a cargo jet so they can be tested for a few parts per million of contaminants. See? We can all make a difference.
