View Full Version : Jon Stewart - American Badass
I had to add to the string of "badass" threads with this. But seriously, The Daily Show is the only place that's bothering to call McCain on his lies, and Palin on her absolute lack of qualifications.
So specifically, last night's Daily Show gave Palin a huge uppercut (http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008/09/16/jon-stewart-on-the-sarah-palin-interview/).

There's also Countdown with Keith Olbermann and now the Rachel Maddow show who both come out and call McCain on his lies. But yeah, The Daily Show (and the Colbert Report) does it the best.

We love Jon Stewart here too, although we don't get the full show, but just a weekly round-up of highlights, which is a bit of a bummer.
Good article in The Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/you-cant-be-serious-how-a-comedian-became-the-most-influential-voice-in-american-politics-901828.html) in August.
Totally plagiarised by The Observer (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/sep/14/television.television) last Sunday too :D
It's about time that Stewart becomes the new Letterman, i.e. having more famous guests. The lack of famous/interesting guests makes the Daily Show pretty boring sometimes. Nevertheless, Stewart is a smart and very funny host, doing one of the best tv-shows around. Especially in political topics, he shows his strength.
I'd almost say: 'Stewart for president!' ;)

you can see all the full episode on the Daily Show website though. (just in case you weren't aware of that)

btw. watching some of the recent DS episodes it seemed to me that it would be agood idea to just run some of those montages they do about McCain and Palin as Democrat Party tv ads. I particularly enjoyed the McCain and Bush acceptance speeches edited together to show the word for word similarities :)

No! I can't! :(
I get this message (which is really funny, btw ;))
Dear Great Britain
We're terribly sorry, but full episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are not available.
But please don't send any Red Coats in retaliation at this time, as you CAN get your headlines at Channel 4

I managed to get around that by typing a few extra things in the URL.... it worked, but that was a fortnight ago, and I've completely forgotten how I did it now!
Will have a play around when I get a moment and post it here... ;)

Anyone catch Tony Blair on the show?
His episode currently on the homepage...

(Doin' his Hugh Grant routine for the yanks. Umm, Tony, you're like 14 years too late.... :D:rolleyes: )
Fair play to Stewart - incisive questioning, amusing but not over-the-top... polite but not sycophantic. Our country's interviewers and TV hosts could learn a lot from him.

I find the Colbert Show much funnier, but the Daily Show has its strengths.

hmm I prefer Daily Show over the Colbert Report. But both are good :)
Janie: that sucks that you can't get the full episodes :(

I don't know...I find it hard to agree with either party very often, so when someone is ridiculing one of the two parties by getting in character and spouting their most ridiculous viewpoints and ideas casually, its more funny to me than someone looking at that same party but also inserting their other-side-of-the-aisle input that Jon Stewart does, that I tend not to agree with as well. Jon Stewart does rip on Democrats from time to time, but I'm not sure on what pattern or criteria.

I don't think it's quite the equal comparison between The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. One spoofs news shows (and gets bigger guests), and the other spoofs pundit shows. Jon Stewart is a great comedian, and Stephen Colbert is a great comedic actor. Some nights TDS is better, some nights TCR is better. It just depends on the news of the day and the angle each show takes.

Jon Stewart on top form (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/13/jim-cramer-on-daily-show_n_174558.html), doing the kind of work that commentators far more serious than he should be doing - and ripping CNBC's Jim Cramer a new ass in the process.
3 clips, maybe NSFW (some language), definitely worth watching.
Yeah, that was pretty incredible stuff.

Stewart: "If I only followed CNBC's advice. I'd have a million dollars today – provided I'd started with $100m."
F'in class. :D
God I wish we had a broadcaster of his calibre over here...

I just can't believe how effective he is. He just took an entire corporate network and gave it a black eye. Michael moore could not have done half the damage. It really is remarkable, and if I had to guess how he manages it, I'd say its the power of not selling your soul.

Cramer VS Stewart interview was pretty awesome. Although I expected Cramer to put up a bit more of a fight, any kind of fight really, but I guess even he was hard pressed in the end to justify the things he was saying in the clips Stewart fired at him.

They're so good at sifting through what people have said and done as a means of pointing out their hypocrisy, lies, manipulative tactics, etc. I actually wish that more people would have the balls to go on that show to be directly confronted by themselves. Like Limbaugh (http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=220240&title=a-party-in-limbaugh) (they get O'Reilly in there too), or even FOX News (http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=219506&title=Fox-News-Reports-Joe-Biden's-Gaffe). It's good to see people called on their shit.
