This is one of those albums that needs a lot of listens. The best albums are aren't they! This is a classic or will be.
Forget Urban Hymns. This is more Northern Soul perhaps a reminder of Gravity Grave (My favourite Verve track) territory.
Most of the press i see haven't really gone in depth except NME.
Coldplay's Viva La Vida feels like over production to me but The Verve's Forth feels real in comparison.
Go Forth people and buy it.... ;)

Holy crap! I had no idea they were even back together! The Verve was one of very few "guitar" bands I really liked when they broke up back in the late '90's. Thanks for the tip....I'll definitely be picking this up.

I'm listening to some of the new stuff on their Myspace page right now, and in "Love is Noise", Ashcroft sounds a bit like a cross between his old self and Neil Diamond....:D

EDIT - Whoa! And did you know that they released a 14 minute segment of a jam session from when they first got back together last year? It's called "The Thaw Sessions", and it's still available to be downloaded for free right here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CHEI396E).

Well, I got it. And, after one listen, I think there was only one song I really liked.
