Definitely... How would everyone feel about doing Underworld covers? I've always loved 'tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be Underworld' as a title, and UW themselves never used it.
I might join in. I'd prefer original songs though.

Hmm, cover versions or remixes?
Much as it might be fun to try to remake an UW from scratch, i think we might disappoint a few people who are used to the real thing. So i guess i'd prefer originals, too.

Well, I was thinking that we'd be forced to do something different with the tunes to avoid negative comparisons with the originals, which would make for an interesting compilation... but it was just a thought, I'm in if it's another original songs project too.
I might do an industrial metal version of Peggy Sussed anyway, just for a laugh :-)

My lad has been working on a guitar riff for Spikee.... yes really! :D
Maybe covers would be fun for a change - or one CD of originals and another of covers...?

ok, how about splitting this in two, covers and normal? I've convinced the mortgage crisis saviors to help me out with Peggy Sussed, which should de a laugh :-)

A theme is always a good starting point. It's getting towards Autumn, which always gets my creativity moving. Maybe something autumnal, or the theme of shorter days, longer nights?

I have some pieces of music from a film I just scored that I'd like to throw in, but as for creating something new... I'm a bit burned out.
I'm working on a track, it's in quite a far stadium and I can contribute it to the compilation.

I'm happy to coordinate the submissions, though i might need some help with webhosting.
Might i suggest we try to have tracks submitted by October 13th (6 Weeks from now)?
Here's a theme to work with: "Evidence of Autumn". Or if you hate that, suggest another or do whatever. It needn't be consistent, and with the various styles and abundant talent from you folks, it'll be eclectic and interesting anyway!
When your track is done, send me a PM and i'll give you my email address to direct the track to. Mp3s of 192 kb/s or better would be best.

Dunno if I'm going to make the deadline, but then we could always extend that a little bit eh? ;)
I only just saw the thread, but I'd love to be a late entry if that's okay. And luckily, I have a new original track I'm pretty far along with already, so it shouldn't take me too long to get it done.

Great! Considering how these things go, you're right on time!
I'm sure we'll have a few extended deadlines and drop-outs/drop-ins before it's all committed to the interwebspace.

About the webspace: we still have darksounds.org right? I think I remember it was suggested when that was put together that we would be able to continue to use that for future compilations. That would make things a lot easier and quicker I think, plus it would be nice to have the results of multiple compilations on one site.

Well, i'd suggested the above deadline a few weeks back as a straw-man. My guess is it'll need extended?
But hey, Cadevil...you suggested the new compilation...it's your baby! I'll be done when you say so!

Yeah, me neither...heading to Warsaw this weekend, and with work/prep/other life matters, it's not gonna happen by the 13th.
Is anyone opposed to extending the deadline to , say, November 1st?
Provided, we actually stick to it with critical mass of tracks?
Again, i'm happy to collect the tracks and bios (PM me with link!), but i'll need help geting them onto the old darksounds.org, where "dreamgirl" compilation lives.

I'm actually behind, too. Been trying to finish a remix that might get a release, so this had to move to the back seat. I can finish something up soon though.
now that's funny.
i got the renewal notification for darksounds.org a couple of days ago, and tonight i hopped on here (actually not because of that; just browsing around the 'net) just in time to see this discussion!
i'd be happy to help out with this new one again... i think last year i ended up not getting everyone on the site because there were a few latecomers as far as info goes, and i was neck-deep in work projects.
if someone can help ensure that all the elements are collected from all the participants this time, i can knock it all together and put it online.
i have a few enhancements in mind for the downloadable tracks and such this year, too.

Okay, here (http://www.tfhats.com/e107_plugins/flashmp3_menu/mp3/Chemtrails/Plaisir%20d%27amour.mp3) is my track. It's called 'Plaisir d'amour' (which is from an old French poem about the pleasures of love that last a short time, while the pain of love lasts for all your life). I guess that it fits the autumn. I hope you guys don't mind the end (just a kick drum), because this track is primarily made for my live set (on November the 22nd) and I will mix in another track at that moment.
Ermmm count me out, my track is not finished and I have to focuss on my exams for the coming 2 weeks...

Yeah, extensions fine - i need to tweak my track anyway, or maybe start over fron scratch (it sounds too Depeche Mode, though that wasn't the intent at all!)
Do we want to push this until the end of the year or maybe say end of November so we can get things organized before the Holiday madnes ensues?

and i think there's another couple of musicians here that haven't chimed in yet...would be great if you could contribute something as well !

I have actually been working on it lately, I'm working on it as we speak and I can "finish" it before the 29th. I don't know how techno-loaded the compilation will be, but my track will be the chance to take a breath.

Okays, kids - any last minute additions? Can you get then in by the end of the week?
As it is, we've got a short, but sweet, compilation of tracks. If anyone has a spare laying around, i think it'd be fine to submit that too- we're not tied down to an 80 min maximum LP length in this mp3 age, but even so, we are far below that in total track duration anyway.
But the tracks that are in are all really excellently produced and rather varied in genre, as you'd expect from this diverse crowd. I think it'll be a strong compilation in the canon of Dirty Tunes! :)

Okay, everything's getting organized.
I've played the tracks several times trying to come up with an order. Of course, if we post 'em individually, it doesn't really matter. But for those that like to have the whole compilation on their player of choice or to burn a CD, it might be nice to add some numbers or maybe zip the whole thing on the Darksounds site.
Either way, to make it simple, i just ordered alphabetically, and if there were more than one track, i started through again. keep it varied, you know?
So here's what we're looking at and soon to hear...
Darksounds.org compilation 2008: "Evidence of Autumn"
1. “Be Home By Dark” (abscraps mix) -AViD
2. “To Where the Sunshine Goes” -Bitten Turtle
3. “Caught on Film” -Easydelic
4. “Packaging Solutions for Life ft. Timothy Leary” -GRANDbrother
5. “Ils d r y” -Marshall Watson
6. “Trance de Muerte Score megamix” -Matt Parra
7. “Gateway” -Sputnikk
8. “But Tonight” -Tin Foil Hats
9. “Chimera” -AViD
10. “Mizzle” (Early edit) -Easydelic
11. “Plaisir d’amour” -Tin Foil Hats
Also, i started working on the cover art - again, not necessary, but whatever. See lo-fi attachment.
If anyone's not happy with anything - track names, order, art, whathaveyou, just PM me and we'll get it sorted.

Welcome aboard, LX Nen! Quite easy to add you and adjust the artwork.
Maus, who owns the darksounds.org page, isn't around these boards much, but i've been in touch through email. he sez:
"i plan to just make a new front page that has the name and year of each compilation - so it'll just go to a main darksounds.org (http://darksounds.org/) page, then you can click on 'dreamgirl... (2007)' and '..... (2008)'
might take me a few days to get things together, but i'll put together a similar layout to last year. that way as we go forward, people will still be able to access all the various years' projects.
i'll probably throw a track in there, yeah"
EDIT: new preview cover art below, inc. back cover with placeholder for Maus's track. Better? Worse?

for some bizarre, ungodly reason, this project has compelled me to create the page for it within a day both times.
last year's page was a record for me in terms of putting something together quickly, and this year seems to be following suit.
i will warn you guys that i went with a CSS layout this time, and i'm still pretty new to CSS, so it may completely explode in some browsers. if so, let me know via PM so i can fix things.
