New competition for Google, developed by ex-staff members who innovated some of Google's methodology 2 years ago. It just began taking searches today!

http://cuil.com

Pronounced "kool".

Good example "dark+train+underworld": http://www.cuil.com/search?q=dark+train+underworld

looks awkward.
darktrain + underworld doesnt lead anywhere particularly useful, least of all here.

My initial reaction is the same - awkward, and Google is such a titan now. But who knows. I've been surprised plenty of times over the last 10-15 years at how suddenly and completely internet habits have changed. Netscape... AltaVista.... Lycos.... even Yahoo!....

Cuil's search results page is infuriating. Columned results takes a giant step backwards in terms of readability.

I think its fine if you're looking for general info in places you didn't know existed.

Search "Underworld Music", for example, and there is a lot less junk and a lot more information than there is on Google, per page.

Well, I tried searching for LX Nen, and got dozens of pointers to the nearly empty blog I have at trig.com (every time they archived it got it's own link), hundreds of links to ascii garbage pages, but no links at all to my myspace, my facebook, my postings under this name here or on any other sites, and worst of all, no link to lxnen.com.

I won't be going back there in a hurry.
