Karl Hyde did an appearance at HMV in Shibuya on Wednesday, July 23rd at 7:30pm. You had to purchase a copy of "The Bells...The Bells..." to get a special pass to enter. I wasn`t able to make it as I had to work until 8:00, but I got a hold of some of the details from one of my trusted sources;)

Apparently, about a hundred people attended and only Karl was present. They did a quick Q and A about previous Fujirock shows and then talked a bit about Parc. Here are a couple excerpts that we probably all do (or do not know) the answers to already, but it`s always interesting to hear what Karl has to say:

Interviewer: "Will Parc be played at Fujirock this year?"

KH: "I don`t know. We never know what we`re going to play before we go on stage. There`s a meeting between us and the crew before we go on, and we ask them what they want to hear."

Interviewer: "Where did you get the inspiration for Parc?"

KH: "It was a piece of music that we were writing and uh... we played it live at a concert in Holland. And the recording went really well and what you have is the live recording that we made on stage one night."

Next, they discussed Karls top 10 recommended albums - a flyer was passed out beforehand with his "top 10 list" - with them playing a small sample from each.

After that, they did several rounds of "janken" (Japanese "Rock, Scissors, Paper") until they narrowed down a winner from the audience. He was given a signed copy of album (I assume it was "The Bells...The Bells..."), a signed T-shirt, and a Tomato print.

Then, they wrapped it up and Karl "left the building".

I didn`t include the "Top 10 Album" list for the sake of brevity, but I can get that if anyone is interested. They do these kinds of interviews every time Underworld comes to Japan and I think it`s really exciting for the fans here!

in japan, they play rock paper scissors and whoever wins gets handed signed copies of underworld things and tomato artwork.

in america, it decides who takes the garbage out, and people cheat anyway.

How does one cheat at rock paper scissors?!

I wish Karl would do signings at London stores.

I wonder if Parc will ever be expanded? I mean it's one of their best in a while, it could be expanded into a "Juanita"-style epic that would be one of their best tracks period, and it gets put on a Japan-only remix collection? I just don't understand this dude!

I realize that this event took place back in July, but someone had requested the list of Karl`s Top 10 Albums. Unfortunately, I did not have a copy at the time since I could not attend the event. However, I was finally able to get the list from a friend!

as far as New Order fans go, it's rated near the bottom of their albums (or was before Get Ready and WFTSC). i think general music fans may like it because it's top loaded with singles and has a rounded, polished sound.
