But we were learning so much.

Loop that shit for a few more months.

locked because people more than said what they wanted to say, and there might have been a little more real mileage into it, but it's been getting redundant for awhile.
ps. dont pm me with more 'points'. they're boring.

i think locking it was an excellent notion. it's one of the stupidest threads this forum has seen in a long long time.

you guys enjoy yourselves.I'm pretty disturbed by the thread being locked, too. I understand that things got heated, but this is the world forum, and that's just how things go here. There's disagreement that sometimes escalates to anger, but we tend to be able to ultimately work things out. Locking a thread like that removes that opportunity and leaves too much unresolved in my opinion. Like I didn't get to add one more crucial point about Bush also opposing stem cell research because of the same misguided reasoning he's now applied to birth control, but that doesn't mean he hates people with Parkinson's or Alzheimer's or paralysis. It just means he's made an idiotic judgement about the value of a lifeless lump of cells over living breathing human beings who have serious needs. But I guess I'll never get the chance to make that point...;)

not even close to the parallel you thought you were drawing.

Dubman, those of us who took part in that thread have actively taken part in the World forum for years without threads being locked.

I don't think I've once see anyone step in to lock a thread in all that time, and there have been plenty of heated arguments.

Why now? Did someone complain to you?

Or did the rules recently change? (Are there posting guidelines here?)

Serious question. Because unlike other forums I visit, Dirty's World forum has always struck me as an extremely self-regulating place, populated by a regular bunch of people who tend not to hold grudges. (EDIT: for the most part)

Was it really necessary?

you guys enjoy yourselves. After putting together the fact that dubman was posting his comments in response to the pm you sent to him, me, and a few others, I can't say I blame you. It's unfortunate that a shitty comment like that had to be aired out in front of the entire forum community here. Unexpected and disappointing coming from a moderator. Hopefully we'll see you back here soon, Strangelet.

Did y'all get a direct call from Bush someone to shut it down?

TLDR. Well, that's not true, I read nasty things and decided it wouldn't be a good pre-bed read.

Plus ya'll forgot the disease-control that ability condoms bring to the table.

i haven't seen histrionics like this since the last season of project runway.

ah well, it's the natural order of things for long-time forums to have occasional breakdowns and conflicts. like a forest fire clearing the way for new growth.

Locking threads is cyber-fascism.

I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

i thought i knew the habits of threads wll enough to know when its usefulness and "constructive" aspects were at a clear end.
if you want to open it up again and drag it through the street by the hair again you'll excuse if i think it's a bad idea.

So while misogyny was done to death, there's still plenty there that renders reopening it a good idea.

Thanks, Janie. :)

Nice to see it unlocked again. Just to explain, i didn't wish to take a break because my feelings were hurt.

I just think it was total bullshit that a thread gets locked by a moderator who also happened to be not only a participant, but author of some of the most inflammatory, obstructionist comments, then decides himself when the argument is finished based on his own selective attention span and when he decides that he's no longer interested in hearing opposing viewpoints.

I mean are we going to be able to discuss shit here or not?

I'm quite happy being the forums fool, I just think this forum has been amazing for its participants and the fact that we respect each other to say what we think and listen. without which it just becomes a serious waste of time.

now that part isnt true. i wasnt interested but i wouldnt lock a thread for that
i admitted it to janie in pm so i guess i'll air it here too. i flubbed it. i thought i recognized threads like these from multiple years of boarding as the kind that never really pick up from everything that happened, and the kind that everyone want to basically be put out of their misery from and move on from. thats probably still true but i wasnt the guy to do it. i responded rather curtly to the PM of "lets group hug" because i saw no reason for it, just trying to convince ourselves that we're all "just fine now" even though theres was very much the feeling that these same things would come back later because they are not nearly resolved

in short, whether you believe it or not, i really did distance who i was as a poster (which sean will call everything but an asshole), than who i was as a mod. i just made a different kind of quick decision (because honestly, its just moderating. i dont have the weight of anything on me so the life of a thread isnt particularly *precious*) that i goofed on and people put the two together and assumed i was acting out of spite. but in my experience mods always end up coming into threads like these and turning the lights out.

but that experience hasnt transfered here, and janie knows how things "work" and she opened it back up.
i dont really believe that things could be turned around to be more constructive, at least not if i decided to get back into it and have more of my own version of things, but i guess i'll have to be proved wrong, because, and i know this is internet drama move 101 but really, i'll not be modding this one particular board until i know you people more at least.

ok.

I think all the people who freaked out when the thread got closed should feel bad that they haven't touched it in several days. We've paid more attention to the thread about the thread that got locked.:p
