so...
I don't know how to feel about this...
ok - obviously other than the first aspect of "damn, I feel so old, I can't believe it's already been ten years since I discovered that album"
(which I credit to one of the major aspects as to how/why I got into electronic music)
I just downloaded the tracks, and haven't listened to them yet, but here's the Amazon.com description
2008 release, coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of the original New Forms album from Roni Size Reprazent. To mark this anniversary, Roni Size has returned to re-edit New Forms' 13 original tracks. Four brand new tracks will also be featured including the single 'Don’t Hold Back', which manages to not only sound like a perfect bedfellow for the original thirteen tracks on New Forms but is also thoroughly contemporary. Not surprising perhaps, considering the timeless quality that Roni Size/Reprazent captured through the likes of 'Heroes', 'Share The Fall' and the top 20 single 'Brown Paper Bag'. 17 tracks.

it makes no sense whatsoever
here's the amazon link (http://www.amazon.com/New-Forms-II-Roni-Size/dp/B0014I4K3A/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1209856822&sr=8-2)
I will say... he manages to absolutely RUIN "heroes" this time around

thats really bizarre
like... flat out admitting that youre done and have got nothing left.
his albums have sucked for years, why would he tweak himself in top form to match his nonsense of today
baffling.

..."New Forms 2" is so frustrating that it's hard to describe how utterly confused (and angered) I am by its mere existence
like, if he said "oh, I always dug "New Forms" but wanted to present it as a continuous dj mix" that would be one thing
but I mean come the fuck on! "Brown Paper Bag" is barely over three-and-a-half minutes now
"Digital" and "Heroes" have sub-par, boring... monotonous beats sort of just thrown over top of them (that don't vary whatsoever through the whole track)
and the new songs... wow "Don't Hold Back" doesn't fit in AT ALL
...grumble
I've always thought it would be awesome to see Railing performed with a live band. Just a drum set and a bass guitar and a microphone.

roni size did a live thing on jools hollands tv show. it was with portisheads drummer, live bass, turntables. it was really cool
i read a review of this album when it was released and i didn't even bother to check it out. sounds like a really thoughtless concept. roni size should focus on creating new music in new contexts, but he's selling something that was relevant 10+ years ago.

so hearing it didnt really end the confusion
although it's pretty disappointing
it's just infusing all the tracks that had rawness and nuance with testosterone and unnecessary bells and whistles. 50% more macho that didnt need it, is completely pointless, and will make people like mongoose say "yeah! now it's got BALLS!"
edit: seriously, its funny-sad hearing the original and then going to the other.
OOH NOW IT'S GOT POINTLESS TEXTURE, SWIRL SWIRL SWIRL, BUSY BUSY BUSY.
also, way louder. FUCK YEEEAAAAHHHH.
stupid, stupid.
the little things that made 'new forms' the best track on the album are either changed to be a little dumber or just drowned altogether.

Roni Size was aiming for the dancefloor with this one. all tracks have been remixed to fit the podium and for that matter...i should say, good job. You can dance to it. But from musical perspective...PLOP!

The only good song on the original was Brown Paper Bag anyways, so if they can dress this old turd up with some BING BANG ZOOM it might be worth a listen if I'm fucked up enough to tolerate it.:D
oh yeah,
I'll kick everyone's ass and don't yall forget it!
