UW album ranks

Ok, new albums been out for a long time now and we've all had plenty of time to listen and ponder the tracks. So based on this, rank the albums on your preference from 1 -5.

I put AHDO off as 5, not becuase I hate it, but I don't think it flows as well compared to others and i'm not a big fan of the artwork that was picked as imo, UW artwork is well crafted and not just a cheesy pic of them standing there like your average twonky indie band:


1 - STITI - pure class, not a bad track at all

2 - BF - underrated imo, Cups is an amazing track. Just wished Please Help Me was on the album and not Push Downstairs.

3 - OWB - Lovely mix of ambiant pieces, instrumental bliss and Karl doing something different with the lyrics.

4 - Dubno - Only really like Dirty Epic and Skyscraper, still like it, but not as much as others!

5 - AHDO - Doesn't flow well compared to other albums.

that was my gut reaction, but looking at it that can't be right. i skewing this ranking with past feelings.

I'm sure other people will rank it higher, but interesting how thus far here and in other threads, AHDO always ranks last. Agree that it doesn't seem to hold up as well in the canon, to my ears sounding very muchanical and "safe". But i still find a lot to like on the record: i remember that september day in 2002, being pretty much blown away by Momove, TMO, DinoAdv3d, Luetin, and greatly enjoying the likes of Ballet Lane and Little Speaker and Twist. Sadly, the junky Trim and to a lesser extent, Ess Gee and Sola Sistem make the record feel a lil tired to me. Anyway, a long way of saying, AHDO isn't bad by any stretch. It's just my least favorite.

I rated AHDO third, because it's a great album. Little Speaker once was in my "worst 5" but has grown on me since and is probably one of my favourite UW tunes ever.
I really liked the RiverRuns and rate them all higher than OWB. I think that with the RiverRuns UW had complete freedom while with OWB they made a compromise.
On that album they tried to be old and new at the same time.
I see OWB as a record they had to make in order to get money and press coverage as the RiverRuns weren't quite as attention-grabbing.
Several great tracks like Beautiful Burnout, Crocodile or Globe seem "streamlined"... I didn't really like that. Faxed Invitation on the other hand was a positive surprise.

I would actually rank OWB higher but dubno is classic. I honestly really like OWB minus Glam Bucket, and cuddle Bunny. Cuddle bunny doesn't fit at all and Glam Bucket just keeps building without an actual song anywhere present. I feel like it's the introduction to a story never written. It's definitely tough to put these albums in order.

Ranking these albums is too hard. I don't share the frothing hatred for AHDO, because it was the album that made me take notice of Underworld. Plus, it has grown on me more and more since I heard it, and I liked it when I first heard it!

I would rate four of the albums as number 1 with BF as number 2.

I guess Everything, Everything would be #1 as well

Of all the albums, BF is the one that gets the least amount of play these days. I guess that says something. It doesn't mean I don't like it, but it does mean that lately when I want to hear Underworld, I want to hear each of the other 4 albums first.

well. . I raved about OWB upon its release, declaring it a welcome return after the less than underwhelming AHDO and BF. At that time, someone suggested I return to AHDO and give it another listen.

Well i did and it has since become one of my favorites

i gotta say, as cohesive wholes, i don't think underworld's albums work particularly well... but as far as the quality of individual songs goes...

1. Second Toughest (the only real miss, i think, is the opener)
2. A Hundred Days Off (hits: Little Speaker, Mo Move, Luetin, Dinosaur Adventure 3D, Twist, Sola Sistem, Two Months Off)
3. Dubnobasswithmyheadman (Dark & Long, Mmm Skyscraper, Surfboy, Cowgirl, Dirty Epic, River of Bass, Tongue)
4. Beaucoup Fish (Something Like a Mama, Jumbo, Winjer, Kittens)
5. Oblivion with Bells (Loads of Birds...)

if we were to include some of the EP's (pearls girl and dark & long both exceed an hour in duration...) and the riverruns, things might be a little different...
