Very very cool news!
Karl always talks about their radio shows in interviews, and while there have been quite a few, they're also kind of far between and irregular. Neat to see that this is to be a quarterly edition with mass broadcast possibilities!

Coz daily content updates, free audio, streamed gigs and movies aint enough. One a year's good enough for me. Less is more, keeps them special and exciting.

This already makes more broadcasts in the last year or so than we have had in years prior. Also, as previously mentioned, we get plenty of freebies and daily updates as it is. Rarity is what keeps stuff like this interesting. One of my favorite quotes is from Miles Davis, and I think it's quite appropriate for this...
"The reason I don't play ballads? Because I love to play them."
Speaking as an artist, playing and listening to the same sort of stuff all of the time makes it seem to lose its magic. Keeping things in moderation allows said magic to remain.

This is great news, I can't wait.
About recording the shows, I think it still should be done live or taken from the version underworldlive.com hosts after the broadcast. In the recent future they will be available on underworldlive.com, but who knows for how long. Maybe they will only have the most recent past show uploaded, or even if they all stay for a while they may all disappear after a new redesign in a couple years. Of course, I say this not as a person who knows how to record the show, so I have no right to say "it should be recorded".
Okay I haven't really read all the posts in this thread, but is this going to be a show of UW material, or will they be spinning others' records?

What a great show - not only for the u/w "work in progress/remix" tracks, but also for the John Peel-esque pic 'n' mix selection of tracks by other artists. Excellent visuals and cool to see them live in Lemonworld. There may have been audio glitches (and the let's face it, the Bamboo episode produced the best humour in the chat room) but what other band goes out of its way for its fans in the way that u/w does.

well there were a few work in progress tracks. A couple more ambient pieces and one that had a almost 80's, housey vibe. Bamboo was pretty much the same as we've heard it played although the stream encoder was malfunctioning so it was glitching like crazy. The version of ALAF was different (again) from previous versions. A bit slower and more monotonous, with a different bassline. I preferred the old versions myself.

Well the glitches in Bamboo (and less prominently in a few songs before that) were from the encoder machine, as Malcolm told us in the chat. There should be no glitches in ALAF because it was fixed at the end of Bamboo. The only reason there are glitches in what I posted earlier is because of lost packets either on my connection or at my Akamai mirror. The Listen Again is always better because then there are local copies at the Akamai mirror, so there shouldn't be any dropped packets.

can anyone explain to a complete novice how they managed to have a alias of a quicktime file on the site that remote links to the real deal on an apple server somewhere without any indication in the source code of where it could be? and also why more people dont think of that...
all of these quicktime files automatically sound so much better when converted to mp3, and if the real mov could just be nabbed we'd have some amazing sound quality on our hands.
TheBang
04-24-2008, 01:23 PM
How can it sound better when you're going from low-bitrate AAC -> MP3? At best you'd have near-equal quality, and at worst (depending on the MP3 bitrate), you'd have a encoding-artifact sonic nightmare.

This broadcast was awesome! Thank you team Underworld!
The new version of Always Loved a Film was my favourite this time. I wonder if there will be lyrics... liked the 'big sister' lyrics last time. And i hope the old bass line returns in some form.
I really like the direction UW is going to. The ambient bits of this broadcast were great. I hope they'll be released at some point, alongside some classics like Darc, TT (what happened to it?) and ALAF.
I can't wait until June!

Can't . . . stop . . . listening to Telematic Peal.
I can see what you mean when you say it reminds you of Luetin, KoS. But it's weird because I really don't care for Luetin at all, but I love Telematic Peal.

I'm in love with the ambient bits from this show.
I can't stop repeating "Jumping then Cran". ( Thank you, Jan, for the mp3s. :) ) I even drew a picture with what I thought the lyrics were. (Only the first line I wasn't sure about.) Karl's voice is so lovely.
Ahh and the "Minneapolis" + "Ring Road" mashup...that got me moving and singing. Just thinking about it makes me want to listen to it again.
Thankyouthankyou UW for this broadcast...! You made my week beyond awesome. :)

Telematic Peal...This is piece!!!
My small wish:
What about that the next broadcast will be more banging, I still want to hear again amazing techno improvisation pieces as we heard in Prague this year before Moaner.
I love Underworld!

Telematic Peal...very cool. A bit of menace to this track. I'm glad it's a new animal...from the name, i was afraid it might be a mashup of Born Slippy.Tel Ematic and Simple Peal, a la "Ring Road/Minneapolis" (which is brilliant, by the way!).
Always Loved A Film gets better with each version we get! The latest with that crazy rolling bassline is sooo catchy!
Sooo, new bits debuted:
Santeago
Stoffer
Santeago Quatro
Telematic Peal
Jumping the Cran
Santeago Peal
Helen's Nails
Quid Odd
And former friends revisited:
Auto Trader

Well the glitches in Bamboo (and less prominently in a few songs before that) were from the encoder machine, as Malcolm told us in the chat.
Hmm, i was wondering how many of the glitches were accidental versus deliberate, as they sometimes seem to go with the beat, and the stuttering dropping in and out in a very mmm mmm way. Nonetheless, it kinda made me ill to hear it...what was essentially the version of Bamboo played on th last broadcast tweaked and stuttered to oblivion! :p

bamboo glitchfest 4-23-08 was both kinda cool and kinda nauseating. I think used more sparingly, the glitchy rapid-fire stutters are very effective. But when they break in every 5 seconds, it kind of feels like someone has shot through the original track with a machine gun!
But then, i had no idea there was a glitchcore scene, so i guess it was educational listening ;)

Does anyone know the time for each track? I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm trying to make a .cue sheet to split the tracks and was wondering if someone already knew the times. I know there's a tracklist on the page where you can listen to the broadcast again, but sadly, there aren't times for each track.

Yeah, nothing official yet. I split the file myself, but as there are 31 tracks (or 32 if you count the Huntemann remix of Crocodile at the beginning), it was a bit of work and not very exacting. Somewhere in there i messed up and lost count. But at least its easier to navagate through to the UW tracks!
There is some chatter over the RTSR wires of a split copy coming soon with fan artwork.

Tried it three times today. Can't get it to work with VLC.
The latest Quicktime should open the mov. If nothing else works, demux the aac with ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -i 080423.mov -acodec copy test.aac
Then remux the aac with YAMB/MP4box into a mp4 (=m4a) container.
