Hello everyone,
I've been lurking on here for some time now & I have a question that I hope some of you may be able to answer. Has '8 ball' ever been played live & if not is there a reason?
Any help form what appears to be the friendliest forum going would be appreciated.
Thanks

I don't think it has been (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The reason? Dunno. Some songs just don't work out very well when you try to translate them to a live environment. 8 Ball may be one of those.
In the 2005-02-10 Dirtyradio Session, Underworld had the following to say:
Question (oxide10101): I wanna hear 8 Ball live.
Answer (Rick): We've thought about that as well. Mmm, could well be.

sadly no :(
Although I guess it would not really fit into the energy of a live show. And Karl would have trouble playing those guitar parts live. (although I guess they could just play parts from the computer)

It wouldn't work. Some songs are just better suited for your cd/mp3 player.

I think it could work in an abbreviated form -- maybe opening a show or being the first of two encore tracks.

i dunno, a song like Jumbo is pretty lush, and it works great live!
Also, when 8-Ball kicks in right after KoS on ther Anthology, it's like a beautiful comedown...feel like it could work as an encore or similarly placed in concert.

I think it could work. They play downtempo stuff as openers and such all the time. Look at darc. There's not much "pep" in a song like that, and it really kind of makes you melt in your seat, but they've played that. I'd love to hear a live version of 8-Ball.

I think it be easy to sneak in a few lyrics over another song or a bit of the instrumental part inbetween songs.

If a chilled out set ever came, im sure it went venture out from Ricks music machine.

I think it'd make an excellent encore. Very uplifting track by the end.

8 Ball's a great tune and it seems to me like a huge departure from everything they'd done previously. It's the divide that separates two Underworld eras: dark, troubled, intense underworld (dubno, stiti, bf) from lite, dreamy, stress-free underworld (ahdo, oblivion)

In the shows that they are playing in my head 8 ball comes somewhere in the middle of a gig, right after a crazy banger like born slippy/nuxx or kittens. It's a beautiful track and I find the lyrics really soothing. Chronologically, I believe it's been produced sometime after Dirty Epic.

That sounds great!
I think 8 Ball is a great song, especially the, ahem, 'happy' ending. Underworld has a way of making any song fit into a set, as we all know, and I'm sure they could do the same for 8 Ball.
While we're discussing soundtrack-only songs, what about Oh? Does anyone want to hear that live? Maybe? What about with a live saxophone solo? If I remember correctly, I think on the cd it's solely credited as being written by Rick Smith, which is unique for UW songs.
