ive been wanting to make conversation on this since i got the single back before i could drive. but i never thought it could stand on its own unless i had more to bring to the table, so first off:

on the Dirty Epic/Cowgirl single
track 2 - Dirty Epic (Dirty Mix)
@ 10:05
there comes a sound from the movie Akira. when tetsuo shima is being attacked by the Espers.

I always thought that was cool, and i wondered if anyone else caught that. well, did you?

and the other thing i thought up to make this thread less dull, what other pop culture references have you found somewhere? i know coca cola and colonel sanders are two somewhere.

Wow, I've actually put an Akira sample in one of my songs as well back in 2005. It was from the giant Akira ball being torn from the stadium though. What a COINKIDINK!

Thinking of sounds in particular, and this may have been mooted years ago before I was a Dirt, but I have this theory about the kind of yappy noise in the "chorus" bit of King of Snake - I can't describe it any other way.

At the time, those horrible little grey plastic "cyberdogs" called Textra were the toy all boys wanted for Christmas. Someone with a sick sense of humour bought one for my little 'un at the time. And they emitted this horrible electronic yap, which I am still convinced was sampled for that bit of the track. I may be totally wrong, but that is what I think of every time I hear it.

There is one of those horrible things for sale on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Textra-Robot-Dog_W0QQitemZ110233663956QQcmdZViewItem), btw... ;)

i had that single before i ever saw akira and i remember the first time i watched akira i shot straight up out of my char as soon as i heard those sounds. i bolted into the other room and it took me about 6 minutes to track down the exact track where it appeared. it was this big "AH HA!" moment.

that's probably not the pop culture reference you think it is. i'll give you a hint (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comedy/lifeinlondon.shtml), it's slang but (http://blogs.ebay.com/riverboatqueen51/entry/Tom-and-Jerry-Not-Just-Cartoon-Characters/_W0QQidZ315504011) it's not a reference to the cartoon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_and_Jerry,_or_Life_in_London).

I've heard Rick say on one of the Radio shows that his favorite cartoon is Tom and Jerry.

mine too. but that doesn't make the cartoon a drinking/pub crawling reference that's used in common slang.

true! you know, I don't think I ever really read the lyrics to KoS. I just always assumed that, becasuse of his cartoon reference, that was what he was talking about.
