yeah the world forum looks like it got blown away. that's a shame. :(
i'm all for improvements, but why fix what ain't broke?
Seems like it's still a work in progress. Everything's here one day, then nothing the next, then some the next....
My bet is that it'll all turn back up eventually. But then I do lose a lot of bets...:o
OH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING OMG.
Relax.

Hey Yannick & crew
I understand the need to push forward, try new things, etc. I'm all for it.
But why not leave the existing forum software up and running while you experiment elsewhere? (Like in a different server directory.) Then when it's ready you can just swap it over with minimal downtime.
I've got to think about this stuff all the time at work. Sorry. :D

its just that there were some
good posts in the last couple
of days..
however, maybe people will
be a littlle hesitant now that
they see instability with the board..
heck, it's not really that important....
but still i'm a little wary also..

And there we have it. At work. Which means you get paid for it. You are not doing it out of the kindness of your heart to make sure the people in your company using your site(s) are happy and smiling and have their favourite website to play with when the mood takes them. And, of course, I imagine you are part of a team of people dedicated to doing this kind of thing.
Not one bloke, on his own, doing this in his own time and from his own pocket.
Get my drift, people? ;)

oh come on. it's a community. if we're going to be so hypersensitive about who does what out of the kindess of their hearts, what's the point of being a community in the first place?
i seriously don't see how voicing a question or an opinion about a community that most of us have been members of since the turn of the millennium is suddenly a faux pas.
i don't think anyone here needs to be reminded that this place is maintained on the blood sweat and tears of volunteers. asking about the status of the forum is not necessarily ungrateful bitchery. it's a community. we're invested. it matters to us. that's what makes it a good community. thus, we ask.
just my two cents.

The old database was ridiculously huge at over 150mb. Yan has been removing a lot of old log files and fluff and generally tidying up. He has the full backup and I'm informed that the Noise / World / Technique forums will return in blocks in the next few days. Have some patience.

i wasn't posting some condemnation of the board owners..

in the last few days (not that they were great posts)..

With the forums moving servers and owners there are bound to be some glitches. Yannick is doing this on his own, but I'm chatting with him every day and i'll try to keep you upto date if he doesnt do it himself.

Yan, you know we can't be mad at you, man. Don't worry about it... I was just worried that somewhere in there the domain got eaten up by a spam camper due to registration issues or someting, and that'd we lose our little home here. Do what you need to do man, I've been there - and for serious, if you need help, I would happily lend a hand - I have server space with shell access, I would even happily donate a few bucks your guys' way to help out with things - hang tough.

Yeah, I was just being curious and offering a tiny bit of technical advice. For whatever it's worth.
Don't worry, I can deal with the downtime, I have other things to keep me busy :) I think everyone here does... Nobody's seriously upset.
Especially not machin chouette

Now there's an idea. Scott had a paypal account for Dirty radio - I think that needs to resurrected. And there should be a paypal account to allow us to donate towards the running of the forum. Purely voluntary and totally anonymous of course cos not everyone can afford to throw money at these kinds of things.
