The Daily Swarm says there's a rumor that Underworld are opening for Radiohead on the US dates. There is no other reporting or links or anything, just that statement.

Thom Yorke is a fan, but surely that could never happen?

Well, that can't be. Radiohead's US tour dates are May 5-18.

http://www.radiohead.com/tourdates/

Underworld is already booked in Europe for half those dates.

ok well i suppose being in the same festival is feasible.

oh shit i gotta go to this.

Haha, are you guys serious? Do you think UW opens for anybody? Somehow, I think playing TMO,KOS,NUXX as an opener just doesn't work. :D

It would be a good opportunity for them to play their ambient, lesser known, and chill tracks (as they've said they wanted to do), but I hope they never do it as an opening act.

Actually according to that site, Radiohead is coming back to the US sometime in July onwards.

But I still don't think UW would fit the bill.

Well, OK, so Underworld isn't doing the May tour dates. Yes, Radiohead is coming back to the US, dates not yet announced ("Where venues or dates are missing, details will be announced later"), so I suppose it could be All Points West in August, as well as other dates in Aug/Sep/whatever.

According to these Radiohead dates posted at Pitchfork (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/48841-radiohead-to-play-all-points-west-festival---twice), and these Underworld dates posted at Underworldlive.com (http://www.underworldlive.com/events), it would appear both bands have the month of April open.

No?

hmm... I think
technically - UW have "opened" for radiohead at least once... or maybe RH opened for them... (I forget who came on first) at the Hurricane Festival a few years back

damn - that was a good line up... in three days I saw Massive Attack, Radiohead, Underworld, and Bjork

in that order
UW and Radiohead on the same stage so there's no concurrent stage shenanigans. it's one then the other.
so yeah basically it's underworld (2nd to last) opening for RH (main event)
huh.
i mean- holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit.

Huh, indeed. A great finale to be sure, but hardly "UW opening for Radiohead". This thread is how bad rumours get started

OK, so the rumor of UW opening (and hence, "touring") with RH probably evolved out of them playing the festival together.

I don't really consider it "opening" in the same sense if it's a festival.

Anyway, this looks good, another event to consider going to! :D

Bjork and Radiohead did 'open' for Underworld at the Werchter Festival June 2003.
I don't think you can open or warm-up for anyone on a festival, just headline one. Most festivals have more then one stage and lots of people don't watch the act before the headliner cos they watch something they think is better at another stage. That's the fun of festivals for me anyway.

Thnx for the info.

i dont even think thom likes them.i find both bands music to have absurd amounts of similarities. slight pretentious stream of conscious lyrics, electro beats out the ass, lush and subtley tweaked synths, grand build-ups : D crucify me if you disagree *nudge* : )

I suppose that should be a tiny spark of hope for me, seeing that Radiohead is also headlining Roskilde this summer. Please-please-please, Underworld, we need some dirty beats this year! :D

as soon as i saw that lineup, i started thinking about getting some tickets from milwaukee to ny for the show. after double-checking the date on my calendar, i reazlied that's the same weekend as my upcoming wedding :p

perhaps i'll be able to see radiohead and underworld at some other point in the summer, although it won't be nearly as convienent!

I just got my Bristow ticket for Radiohead. If underworld were to open for RH i'd go overboard to get a ticket for that particular date...alone or not, doesn't really matter. Just imagine UW and RH playing the same night, same place, same stage! If i say that i got a little wet...that's ok, right? is it?

shit....and the jersey city date...that is too close to home. one more holiday marked on the calendar :D
